They are monofilament ribbons capable of cutting through most alloys when 
activated.  She doesn't seem to use them that often though: in the 8 BGC 
episodes, she only uses them once on the DD... and they then become a 
liability when she is grabbed a swung around by them.

Off the top of my head, I know she used them more than once.  Like at the
beginning of BGC8, fighting boomers (before Priss mashes Lisa's camera)  :)

The one thing *I* want to know is this:  if Sylia's so smart, why didn't she
design those things to be retractable?
