Actually, it CAN be spelled both ways.  In Japanese, in hiragana, there 
is no 'm' without a vowel following it...when you but a 'n' before a 'p' 
or 'b' kana, it becomes an m...but for the sake of spelling, I've seen 
both kenpo and kempo used fairly frequently, since kenpo is how it's 
spelled, kempo is how it's said.  The same is true of 
yojimbo/yojinbo...though the 'yojimbo' spelling is much more commonly 
used, while I've seen kenpo and kempo just about as often as each other.

Sorry for ranting, but I've been working on a Japanese -> English 
translation of the next volume of Dark Angel for a friend, and so I'm 
stuck in Corrections And Accuracy Mode. :)
