I agree on this, but you're wrong on one point.  To lengthen the 'o' in 
Japanese, you do not use a small tsu....you use an 'u'...small tsu is 
only put before a kana to double the initial consonant, e.g. the name of 
my favorite noodle shop near my house, Kitto, would be written Ki-small 
tsu-to.
