Well, this is pretty much the same thing I posted on Christmas except
that I added fifty lines or so to the end.

Tales of Ranma and Nabiki Six:
Tendo Family Christmas.

by Jeff Rutsch

"Good morning, Ranma!" greeted Soun. "Wonderful weather for the
season, isn't it?"
"Yeah, whatever."
"Forgive him, daddy. He's always rude in the morning. Among other
times in the day."
"Oh, will you shut up, Nabiki?!"
"That's a wonderful thing to say to your fiancee, Ranma."
Soun looked at his middle daughter, confused.
"Why do you act so unfriendly, instead of admitting your true feelings
for this boy?"
"Feelings? I haven't got any!"
"Yeah, don't I know that." cut in Ranma.
"Oh, hello everybody! You all look like you're having fun!" offered
Kasumi cheerfully as she walked into the room.
"Kasumi! Where were you?" asked Soun.
"Oh, I was making invitations!"
"Invitations? What for?"
"For a Christmas party."
"A Christmas Party?"
"I was told to have a Christmas party in the dojo tonight!"
"Sounds like a good idea! Who told you?"
"Santa Claus!" everybody seated at the table collapsed.

**

"So Soun, what do you think of this Christmas Party?"
"Well, at first I had my doubts. But I was thinking..."
"Yes?"
"I still have my wife's marriage ring, and I long ago decided that the
first of my daughters to marry would receive this ring."
"I think I see what you mean. Very clever. Go on..."
"So this would be the perfect opportunity to give Ranma the ring as a
gift! He'll be overcome by the spirit of the party, give the ring,
and after that he'll have to accept the marriage!"
"Soun, you're a genius! Ranma finally will be forced to choose which
of your daughters he will marry, and our families will be united at
last!"
Soun looked at Genma with a bit of anger.
"I already said he would marry my daughter Nabiki."
"Oh yes, of course! Heh heh, how could I have forgotten?"

**

"Why hello, Akane!" Kasumi was in the kitchen, busy preparing enough
food for the night's party. "Have you finished with the invitations
yet?"
"Just got done! Mind if I cook something?"
"Oh, you want to cook? How exciting! No, of course I don't mind!"
"Ok, but I don't know much about cooking...tell me the ingredients and
I'll get them. That way you don't have to stop working!"
"Good idea! What were you thinking of cooking?"
"Sugar cookies."
"Oh, alright. Let's see...Two cups flour."
"Check!"
"Uhh...Akane? That's sugar."
"Oops." Akane blushed, poured the sugar back in the jar, and went to
get the flour.
"Uhh...Akane? That's mayonnaise."
"Oops."
"Give it up, Akane. You're not suited to be a cook." Nabiki walked
into the kitchen.
"Who asked you, Nabiki?! I've never even tried before!"
"Because you don't have the patience, or, daresay I...cooking's a
womanly thing to do, and you're a tomboy." Akane turned around and
gave Nabiki a look that would have killed her if such a thing was
possible.
"I'm sure Akane will be a fine cook, Nabiki. Don't be so mean."
"And who are you cooking for...your darling, or should I say, my
fiance, Ranma?"
"Will you SHUT UP, Nabiki? I'm just being nice! I don't see you
baking cookies for anybody's Christmas present!"
"Why should I get anybody a Christmas present? Since when have I been
Christian?" asked Nabiki, turning around and leaving the room. Kasumi
followed her.
"Why are you being so mean to Akane, Nabiki?"
"What do you mean? I'm not trying to steal her fiance!"
"She's not trying to steal your fiance, Nabiki. She just has a crush,
that's all. Be a little understanding."
"Sure thing, Kasumi." Her voice was laced with insincerity.
"Please, Nabiki..."
"All right already! I heard you the first time!"
"Did you?"
"What you mean by that?!"
"Nabiki...I know that you've been mad at Ranma for a while. But
don't take it out on Akane..." Nabiki didn't respond.
"Now would be the perfect time to make up with Ranma! Why don't you
give him a gift? Wouldn't that be a nice thing to do?"
"No way!"
"Nabiki..."
"Don't give me that disappointed look, sis." Kasumi ignored Nabiki's
comment.
"You're taking Ranma for granted. Maybe a gift would be a good way to
show your affections."
"You're the one who said you can't buy love, Kasumi."
"I didn't say you should 'buy' his love, Nabiki. Giving Ranma a
present would be a good way to show you care for him. You're not
buying his affections, you're showing him yours. Now think it
over...I have to help Akane with her cookies." Kasumi went back to
work in the kitchen.

**

Kasumi and Ranma were working hard in the dojo, Ranma putting away
exercise equipment and moving in furniture while Kasumi set up party
decorations, when a knock was heard on the dojo.
"Oh, it must be our first guest!" said Kasumi cheerfully. "Why don't
you get it, Ranma? Remember to be friendly."
"A guest already? It's more than an hour until the party's supposed
to start." Still, Ranma went to open the door. It was a guy with
long hair and blue and black clothing.
"Ranma...is it really you?!" There was a bit of hostility in the
voice, which Ranma failed to notice.
"Uhhhh...yep, it's me all right. Boy, is it good to see you again. I
can't remember the last time I've seen you but...uhhh...I wish we had
never parted."
"Ranma Saotome? Are you playing games with me?"
"No, of course not. I could never...I could never hide my joy at
seeing you again."
"Really? I mean, it's been years, and I just happened to overhear
that you were having a Christmas party..."
"Yeah, isn't that funny. Well, I'm busy here, so do you think you
could wait in the house? The party'll start in an hour or so. But I
can't wait to talk to you later!"
"Oh, sure. I guess..." the guest looked confused.
"Yeah, see you then!" Ranma smiled and closed the door.
"Who was that, Ranma?"
"I have no clue. Just being friendly"

**

Akane sighed contentedly. The party had been quite fun, a raging
success actually. Usually Akane didn't like parties, but this had
been different...most of her friends, and a lot of other interesting
people, had showed up. Fortunate, considering the short notice. Now
it was time to exchange presents. Akane went back into the kitchen,
put her cookies on a plate, and looked for Ranma. Ranma was standing
in the corner of the dojo. Nabiki was about ten feet away from him,
conspicuously ignoring Ranma. Ranma was talking to some guy Akane
didn't recognize.
"Hello Ranma!"
"Oh hey, Akane. This is Ukyou Kuonji, a childhood friend. I haven't
seen him in a long time...ten years!" Akane and Ukyou shook hands.
"Him?" asked Ukyou. Akane didn't notice the question.
"It's nice to meet old friends, isn't it? So I made these for you,
Ranma! Merry Christmas!"
"Oh, thanks a lot, Akane." Ranma took the cookies, lowered his head,
and said in a depressed tone of voice. "I'm sorry that I didn't get
you anything, Akane. I don't have much money, and this party was on
such short notice, and I was busy helping..."
"Oh, don't worry about it...just try the cookies!" said Akane
cheerfully.
"Can't wait!" Ranma took a cookie, and then offered one to Ukyou, who
politely refused. Akane took one of the cookies.
"Well, here goes nothing!" said Ranma. He took a bite of the cookie.
Time froze.
"Do you like it, Ranma?"
"Well...it's definitely interesting."
"Interesting?"
"Here, let me put it on the table for everybody to...enjoy!"
"Ranma! I gave the gift to you!"
"Akane...I can't keep a gift of this nature to myself when I didn't
get you anything." Ranma looked very nervous.
Akane seemed mad. She bit into a cookie, however, and saw what
the problem was. The cookie wasn't very good, she had to admit. He
obviously was trying to be polite, and didn't want to point out the
flaws in her cooking.
"Sorry if I made some mistakes in the cookies, Ranma. It's my first
time cooking and I guess I made a few mistakes."
"Oh, no problem Akane. For your first time, the cookies
were...great."
"You really think so?"
"Of course." Ranma smiled.
"That's good. You know, I should have realized that baking powder
would be a poor substitute for sugar..."

Nabiki, listening in on the whole conversation, didn't know whether to
be happy or depressed. She couldn't be all that upset, after
all...she definitely wasn't going to give Ranma the two thousand yen
after listening in on that conversation, and a yen saved was a yen
earned.

**

"Ahh, Soun, there they are."
"Our families will be united at last!"
Soun and Genma walked up to Nabiki and directed her towards where
Ranma, Akane, and Ukyou were sitting.
"What are you dragging me around for, daddy?" asked Nabiki.
"I want you to witness something very special. Ranma, I got you a
present."
"Gee, thanks a lot, Mr. Tendo." Ranma opened the box.
"A ring? It's nice, Mr. Tendo, but it's not my thing."
"It's not for you, my boy, it's a wedding ring for you to give to the
woman of you dreams!" said Genma, winking.
"The woman of my dreams?" Ranma picked up the ring and looked at it.
It was very ornate and beautiful. Then it struck Ranma. He was being
pressed to make a decision! There was no backing down on marriage if
he gave the ring.
"Shouldn't I be giving an engagement ring?" asked Ranma, trying to buy
time to do...something. Anything.
"This is Christmas, Ranma. A great time to give a wedding ring. You
can put it back on the bride at the wedding."
Ranma thought some more. Was his father giving him the choice? Akane
or Nabiki? He had never specifically said to give the ring to
Nabiki....and if he gave the ring to Akane, there was no changing his
mind...
"Don't be shy, boy..." said Genma.
Ranma stared at Nabiki, who was returning his gaze. He sneaked a
glance at Akane, who was looking at Ranma with pleading eyes. He
looked again at the ring. Was he ready to seal his future?
"I don't have all day, you know. Give me the ring!" Ranma was too
surprised to notice where the voice was coming from.
"I mean come on! I am your fiance, after all! I've been waiting long
enough, I don't want to wait any longer!"
"Ukyou?"
"Yeah, Ukyou. Don't act so surprised!"
"But you're a guy! I mean, no offense, but you're a guy!" Ukyou
looked at Ranma, perplexed.
"Need I remind you, Ranma?"
"Of course not! I remember everything! You were with the okonomiyaki
cart guy! Just...I never got engaged to you...I mean, you're a guy!
I'm a guy! And I'm not that way!"
"You really don't remember, do you?"
"Of course I do...the pictures in the okonomiyaki sauce...the little
fights we would put on...but you're a guy!"
"Stop saying that, Ranma! Our fathers betrothed us ten years ago
and..." Ukyou raised his hands up the back of his shirt and, after a
bit of fumbling, removed a metal and leather device resembling a
training bra that might have been used in "Conan the Barbarian."
"Does this settle anything?"
Nabiki got on her knees and stared at Ukyou's now well-rounded chest.
After a bit of poking and groping, Nabiki turned around to face Ranma.
"Ukyou's not a boy, he's a girl!"
Ranma's jaw only narrowly avoided the floor. His hands loosened and
he dropped the wedding ring. Soun dove down and caught the ring
before it hit the ground, which gave Ranma the perfect opportunity to
jump up and away from the incident. "Uhh...I don't want to associate
this memory with...with...discovering that my childhood friend had a
sex change!" said Ranma, thinking of a quick excuse to leave.
"This is getting more interesting by the minute." said Nabiki, with a
touch of sadness in her voice.
Ukyou frowned. "Oh no he doesn't!" She jumped in the direction Ranma
had gone.

**

Ranma dodged three spatulas. He looked back and saw them stuck in the
back of the tree. They must be sharp. As quickly as he could, he
charged the faceless attacker, pinning the figure to the ground.
"Ukyou? What are you trying to...to KILL me for?"
"I'm not trying to kill you, just PUNISH you for skipping out on our
engagement!"
"Ukyou..."
"What?!"
"It's obvious you know something I don't. So tell me. Engagement?"
"You really don't know?"
Ranma shook his head.
"Think back to when you last saw me ten years ago..."
"We were riding the yatai, and you were waving back at us...come to
think of it, why the heck were we travelin' on your yatai anyway?"
"My father gave it to your father!" Ranma looked curious.
"He did? What'd my pop do? I mean, he doesn't really have any
friends, or do anything nice for people..."
"He betrothed you to me, and my father gave him the yatai in return!"
"He betrothed me? That no good..." Ranma turned to face Ukyou.
"Ukyou, I am sorry for my father. However....there is a woman that I
love. Please understand."
Ukyou apparently didn't understand. She violently struggled to get
free. Ranma continued his pin. "Don't you love me?" asked Ukyou
after she stopped struggling.
"Ukyou...I didn't mean it like that. Well, I did...I'll always
remember what good friends we were, but, I mean, I thought you were a
boy...can't we be friends again? I mean, like before. Just friends."
Ukyou cried briefly, and Ranma let go of his hold. She then forced a
laugh.
"I can't believe I'm getting so upset...my whole life I've been
cursing my betrothement, despising you..."
"Despising me?" asked Ranma. Ukyou wasn't paying attention.
"And then when I meet you again, you're as nice as anyone's ever
been to me..."
"I was just being friendly because Kasumi told me too...at least when
we first met..." Ukyou still wasn't paying attention.
"I guess now I can finally put you behind me. Or...or at least try.
But Ranma, please don't forget me...I'll never forget you. It's been
a great Christmas. Goodbye, Ranma Saotome." Ukyou turned to leave.
"Wait, where you going?"
"Well, I don't have any place to stay, so I thought I'd sleep in the
woods..." Ukyou admitted bashfully.
"You don't have to do that. You can stay at the Tendo's!"
"You sure Mr. Tendo won't mind?"
"Of course not!" Ranma smiled.

Hmmm...less involved than the other chapters, but I needed to
introduce a character, lengthen the timeline, introduce a few themes,
blah blah blah blah blah. As I conclude this I already have the rough
of the next chapter finished, along with the ideas for ALL the
remaining chapters. If you liked this chapter, have any comments,
suggestions for change, or suggestions for forthcoming chapters,
please reply! Thanks,

Jeff
