Just to put in my 2 cents, in Japanese it is "Aa! Megamisama."  
In English, AnimEigo discussed it with the Creator of AMS, and he picked 
"Oh! My Goddess," apparently because they pointed out a play on "Oh my 
god" in it.  So, if you care about these things, it's either AMD or 
OMG... but, hey, as long as people know what you're talking about, who 
cares? :)
