Well, I can respect your request for private corrections, but what's so bad
about filling up the List with public corrections? My understanding of this

mistakes of others as well. This can only help you to become a better writer,
if that's your goal. There are those who post here for pure enjoyment as well.
Well - I agree... but I was talking about the 'mechanical' things (ie:
spelling, punctutation etc) - that kind of correction does not really
help a person become a better writer... comments on plot, characters,
etc are what I think the ML should be about - that way it doesn't seem
like a bunch of 'proof readers' are reading the stuff posted, rather than
intelligent, constructive critics... (although I wonder sometimes :)
(although *I* don't object to getting help with some of the mechanics,
just don't bother everyone else with it :)

Hmm. Well Brett, actually I was talking about the 'mechanical things'. And
although I get a more immediate thrill out of someone saying, "Hey when's
the next chapter coming?", I tend to appreciate the folks who point out
grammar and spelling mistakes a bit more because of the amount of time that
they put into their critiques. And most of these folks put a little message in
their post anyway, saying, "I like what you're doing. When's the next chapter coming out?" As for bothering everyone else with it, it's not bothering me.
I learned alot from Jeanne H's C & C of Ben Harrison's 'Beat Of Defiance'
fanfic. That's part of what this mailing list is for: Learning. And that's how you
get to be a better writer :)
