Ranko is Ranma's twin sister, who Genma trains at the same time as Ranma.  In 
this alternate history, Genma took them both out on training trips, but didn't 
leave permanently like he did in the original story.
Ranma and Akane have now met three times before episode 1.  As to the last 
question, it is more of a general Ranma question.

Out of the girls.....who is the most advanced and talented in the martial 
arts area?.....Akane, Ukyou, Kodachi, Shampoo,....etc
Why is it that no one really ever tries to fight Akane....everyone sort 
of avoids it....they block but never really attact...maybe except Shampoo....
Is Akane really good ...or is she viewed this way because no one really 
tries to beat her?

I'm not going to get into these topics because it doesn't matter in terms of 
the story yet.  While Shampoo is set to show up in episode 2, Kodachi and 
Ukyou's entrances aren't even planned yet.

Why does Ranma avoid physically fighting with Akane when he easily does 
so with other girls?????

I just followed the manga... (what a cop-out answer!)
