As a rather new member to this mailing list, I have seen references to
some fanfics that I would like to read. While some are probably available at
ftp.std.com, there have been references to an ftp remailer. What is this
thing and how does one use it?

You send E-MAIL to this address: ftp@ranma.net
Don't put anything in the subject or message body.

Within a minute (literally) you get back a list of stories available on the
remailer. These stories are all either work-in-progress or completed
stories written by members of this list. To receive a particular story,
send E-Mail to the address to the left of the story name (no subject, no
message body). Within a minute you get the story back.

This is a great way to keep track of who's writing what, and be able to
comment as you have time to do it. And most, if not all, of the writers
WANT your comments. How else to get better! :)

Another question: I am considering writing a BGC fanfic. While I have
some idea of what the hero's will do, there are problems in developing their
opposition. Are there any suggestions you can make?

I don't have any as to what kind of opposition you might give them. That
would depend on the story. You could always fall back on good old Genom.
<g> However, I would suggest that, whatever you do, you should be careful
of your characterization of the baddies. IMO, villians are easy to take
'over the top', and then you run the risk of entering the realm of parody.
(of course, you could *be* writing a parody, in which case what I just wrote
is a moot point. ;-)

P.S. This is my first post to this list. Sorry if I sent it twice.

Welcome to the list. And I only got your post once.
