Does anyone really know about the copyright issues with regard to fanficts?

In particular Im interested in the following protections...

What about the original creator? A fanfict is a derivative work, what
if anything can and should be done for the protection of a Rumiko Takahashi?

Can I copyright the story to make sure that no one else claims it?

Can I restrict its use? I.E. can I specify that the story may be archived
in any location that is available without premium charges? I love the idea
of the remailer, web sites and the FTP master site, but I don't want MSN or
any other service to place it in local libraries that cost more to access
than the basic rate to reach the internet.

Can I allow a story to be included on a CD rom? If someone makes a
commercial CD of the ftp archive, I would love to grant the rights (free)
for my stories, but if someone makes a few yen, is the original artist
protected? Am I protected from the original artist?
