Hm......  that sounds nasty.   An IRC RPG would work better.

Opinions?  Doable or not?

Not! I don't have IRC :(

    (My own personal opinon of IRC, ducks for flames)
    Well my own personal opinion, get onto a muck,mush or mud for 
rpging. I like mucking/mushing because you can create your own world, 
weapons, people, vehicles. Plus that if said muck/mush is more tiny 
plot oriented then that's a plus.
    I am on a one or two muck/mush that has rpging...if anyone would 
like to try them out...drop me a line. I can jump on when your on and 
show u around....
