Yes, it does have to be in close contact (although a shirt, or thin
gloves would not interfere to greatly.
It doesn't happen unless she wants it to, like when she is really mad.. and
even then she doesn't have to use it. The heating is admitedly the more
deadly of the two, because she could burn you just for a touch, but she
doesn't think of this very often.

Still can't accept but that's my own opinion. Maybe u should at
least considering taking out some of those powers? I mean, I'm not the
only one who suggested it, but go ahead, by all means, it probably works.
I don't think that the powers necessarily need to be removed, though I may not
have made that quite clear. I just think that in the context of the other Ranma
characters that her powers seem a little strong/unrestricted, mostly due to a
lack of definition that I've seen. Most of the points I've brought up were
addressed quite nicely, though some of the powers do still seem a little vague.
(The spirit wave motion still seems unclear to me, does it imbue the object with
more energy?)
Think of it as a wave (of water) hitting sand. The more dense that sand
is, the more it is affected, and the farther the shockwave travels. The
less dense the sand, the less the sand is affected. This water is bad (low
density) and Ryouga is good (He is pretty dense :O ). Actually, the block
has the highest density, and was affected the most, partly becuase of the
amount of anger she had been building up (she wasn't any less angry at
Ryouga, it just didn't 'simmer' before she used it), and partly it is
a really solid object.
Just some more questions about the locking power: Does this take into account that
the earth itself is moving? (ie If you lock an object relative to the universe
it would disappear as the earth moves/rotates at something like 1000 mph.) And
does it take as much effort to *keep* something locked as it does in the first
place?
She never thinks of this, so her 'instinct' adjusts for it. If she
actually thought about it, she probably could.
the amount of energy required is explained in the notes, but let me summon
another metaphor.
If you had a bucket full of water, with a hole in it that you wanted to
drink from, everything would be fine until you're thrist outweighed the
flow. The you would have to expend energy to get more water (no, you can't
tip the bucket), the more water, the more energy needed to pull it through
that hole.
Thus anything Akane's mass or less is easy, she merely has to want to hold
it. (wanting to hold it is easy with her hands, difficult elsewhere, she
is used to the concept of 'gripping' something, and it translates well)
If it exceeds her mass she has to pull more force to hold it. Like sucking
water through the hole, it is an exhausting process, and the more water
needed, the more exhausting. If she never exceeds the natural flow of her
body (the hole) it takes no effort use the energy which is naturally there
(it flows through her, so it doesn't build up, however she can augment it
with her own energy if she is has a supply, like anger, for the
punch/kick mostly.)
