Well, I've had a number of requests, so I am posting some of the stuff I
posted earlier in the year to Ranmamuck on to here. This information is
accurate as far as I can tell.

In the worlds of Manga and Anime, there have been a lot of energy weaponry,
both real and imagined. From simple tasers to sophisticated Dimensional
Rift Generators. They have facinated and stired us, fired our imaginations,
made us beleive in the greatness and, at the same time, the stupidity of
the human condition.
But can they actually exist?
The answer is yes.
You see, all of the weapons are based on actual science. From capacitence
and Planck's constant to molecular rotational quantum number and fiber
reactive index profile parameter, there is a lot of research and development
behind these devices. Because of this, there has been a standing joke that
if the manga and anime writers, artist, and researchers were allowed to have
free reign, Japan would be the best armed country in the world.
So, what are the basic weapons used?
Lets go through some of them with a brief explanation of each.
M.A.S.E.R.
Microwave Amplification by a Stimulated Emmision of Radiation.
These fore-runners of Lasers were the first application, in the form of a
practical device, of the experiment performed by Young in 1801 to demonstrate
the interferance principle. Microwaves travel in the wavelengths between
300 mm to .3mm have a frequencey of between 10 to the 9th and 10 to the 12th
Hertz. The Quantum energy is between 4 times 10 to the negative 6 to 4 times
10 to the negative 3.
L.A.S.E.R.
Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emmision of Radiation.
Similar to Masers, lasers were developed as a more powerful tool used for
made a huge impact on science. Within a few years, the visual range of the
device allowed further development of Holography with a clarity that was
unavailable before.
Lasers run the frequencies between .3 mm to .03 microns and a frequency of
between 10 to the 12th to 10 to the 16th Hertz. The Quantum energy is
between 4 times 10 to the negative 3 to 40.
Plasma
Plasma involves ionizing gas that contains an equal number of free electrons
and positive ions. They are highly conductive and, as such, extremely
important to research into Quantum particles, mechanics, and tachyonic
reactions.
Plasma temperatures can reah high enough to support controlled nuclear
fusion. Thus, now they are applied to magnetohydrodynamics research. Plasma
is contained within electronic and magnetic fields and is best made from low
pressure gasses such as hydrogen and helium.
P.H.A.S.E.R.
Phased High-energy Amplification by Stimulated Emmision of Radiation.
Based on Laser research, Phasers run the entire range of the electro-
magnetic spectrum. They are made using solid state parts for the Quantum
energy pulse. By variation of the imediate energy input in terms of Hertz
Frequency, the Quantum energy release can be increased.
While the theoretically and mathematically possible, they are unable to be
developed because of the limitations in current physical technology. The
solid state emitter is based on combining current semi-conductor emitters
and Free Electron emiiters. In theory, the Phaser can be focussed from a
distance of .02mm to over a million kilometres with once tenth of the energy
loss of current Lasers.
The wavelengths vary between 100Km to 1.0pm with the Hertz frequencies of 3
times 10 to the 3rd to 3 time 10 to the 20th. The Quantum energy will range
between 1.2 times ten to the negative 11 to 1.6 time ten to the 8th.

In manga and anime, energy and power sources are of critical concern if
the story is to make any sense. In earch universe, the rules of transfer
must be worked out, and how they affect the characters and their equipment.
Does the weapon run on Atomics, Antimater, or some 'Mystical' source.
What is the amount of energy required to run the object? And how much of
a "burst" can a source provide?
Uneasy questions that a lot of people do not address.
Well, we have to address it beacuse it matters to the fans. Those people
who we write for and depend upon. They are our worst critics. Compared to
a fan, television critics are nothing.
So what are the possible technological power sources available for high-
technology ships, weaponry, and devices.
ATOMICS
Atomics are a common device used for robots. This is because the principle
behind atomics are well understood. Most school children can describe the
principles, and some can present the mathematics leading to critical mass
and sustainable reactions for a given mass of matter.
The first recorded case of a nuclear reaction was in 1919.
Nuclear energy can be separated into three main units:
Fission
The process of using particles to spit atoms into smaller particles and
atoms. It creates a tremendous amount of heat that can be converted to
electrical energy. Think of a giant, well protected, steam generator.
Problems
1) Storage of waste products due to extreme length of the half-life.
2) Waste products are still highly reactive and irradiate surrounding
objects.
Fussion
The combining of light atoms to heaver, more stable atoms. This releases
a huge amount of energy. The materials must be brought to a plasma state
in order to fuse. Currantly impracticle as a sustainable reaction.
Atomic Batteries
The only atomic energy source that directly releases electrons. Usually
about 1 mm in diameter, they are made by coating one inner side of a sphere
with byproducts from fission reactions. Used in some satalites and many
missiles. Although information on this can be received from government
sources, it will be unavailable to any but researchers and government
personnel. It produces between 10,000 to 100,000 volts of electricity.
Antimater
It is a type of matter who's basic configuration is the opposite of regular
matter. Antiparticles have been found occuring naturally in nature in such
places as cosmic rays and have been produced on earth by using particle
accelerators.
Antimater is recognizable as being oppositely charged or having an opposite
spin in tems of their magnetic movement.
Particle-antiparticle reactions release a high amount of energy and become
photons.
Earth scientists split photons into positron-electron pairs to get particles
to study. Approximately 100,000 atoms of antimater are produced a year.

With the sexual definitions used by the public, (The slang words, the
inaccurate accounts because a term means something different for each
person, etc.), it is hard to know what is meant when people talk about
sex. To understand the definitions, sex and gender must be defined. In
other words, eliminate their interchangeable use.
Gender
Moset people misinterpret gender as sex. This is not unusual since Western
society uses sex as definitions of Coitus, birth appearance, and actions
in public. This unspecified view of sex causes many interpretational
problems. Gender is defined as:
The total amount of masculinity or femininity as scaled in a person.
Gender Assignment
This occurs at birth. The gender determination is made by a practitioner
who has examined the childs' genital area. This forms the social setting
by which parents friends, and relatives will treat the child. Gender
assignment is defined as:
The assigned role of environmental social orientation based on cursory
genital examination.
Gender Identity
Gender identity is a self diagnoses of masculinity or femininity. The
answer to the question, "do you feel yourself to be male or female?",
could be, "I do not know," or, "I can not be sure." This can be due to
actual personal ambiguity, but more often it is due to confusion with
gender role identity. Gender identity is defined as:
A self diagnoses of masculinity or femininity
Gender role
Strictly speaking, gender role is actually determined by the society of a
given time period than by an individual. In fact, society can not survive
without making these distinctions. Gender roles can vary from society to
society. For example:
The eighteenth century North American culture dictated that women should
stay at home, not become involved in politics, and always listen to their
husbands. Men controlled the society to such an extent that any woman who
took a stand was, with a few exceptions, persecuted and severely punished.
In this time period, tribes along the Amazon River had the reverse attitude
towards the sexes.
Since gender role has to do with societies expectations, it is defined as:
The set of attributes and behaviours assigned to a gender by a particular
society.
Gender Role Identity
This is sometimes confused with either gender role or gender identity since
it contains elements of both. Usually it seems easy to determine the
gender role identity of an individual through tests designed to examine
gender dysphoria. Gender role identity is defined as:
How much a person participates in and/or enjoys and approves of the
feelings or behaviours deemed appropriate by society for the assigned
gender.
Gender Dysphoria
This is the general term under which transsexualism is a subheading.
Gender dysphoria, or disturbance of gender identity, occurs in three
separate phases. The first phase occurs in childhood without physical and/
or psycological reason being present, the second phase occurs later in life
due to physical and/or psycological conditions, and the third phase occurs
due to a person being conditioned or shaped by another. This defines
gender dysphoria as:
Gender Dysphoria is a condition of disturbance or feeling ill at ease with
ones gender identity as compared with the assigned gender role and can
occur in three different phases.
1. Arrising or occuring in childhood without any underlying physical
and/or psycological cause or condition.
2. Occuring later in life, usually around early adulthood or late
adolescence and is present because of an underlying physical and/
or psycological cause or condition.
3. Occurs due to enforce conditioning or shaping towards an assumed
ideal by another person instead of an underlying physical and or
psycological condition.
Sex
Sex, probably the most misused word in any language, is defined as:
The biological component of being male or female.
