small blahs:
At last I'm writing something new. After having seen the new 1993
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Cat Girl Nuku-Nuku 1-6, and the Ranma 1/2 "An
Akane to Remember" OAV, and then finding out that Nuku-Nuku takes place in
Nerima along with Ranma and that Megumi Hayashibara plays the voice roles
for both Ranma-chan and Nuku-Nuku, AND then drinking a bottle of tequila and
a couple of cigs later, my mind in its eternal chaos came up with the worst
fan-fic crossover idea ever. So, giving it some careful thought, I now show
it to the rest of the Net world.
Prelude
Several decades ago, nuclear bombs were invented and
humanity rejoiced. To test these awesome weapons,
scientists used the vast oceans of the world. It would not
be until recently that such groups as Greenpeace and other
environmental extremists came about to stop them. One
particular test site had extremely bad effects. It was just
south of Japan where they set off the nuclear bomb named
"Happy." Who knew that deep beneath the surface, lay a
frozen creature, lost in the wrong age and that it would be
mutated into a giant creature that would cause havoc amongst
the populace of Japan for years to come.
The giant opened his eyes and stared across his vast
domain. He had been awakened early. But still he had been
sleeping for a long time and he hungered for food.
Stretching out his arms, he opened his mouth, fish rushing
in along with the ocean water, but it was not enough. Once
again he sat still, his dark scaled skin blending in among
his bed of rocks, awaiting his prey. Recently, his sleeping
periods have been getting longer and longer, he hardly ever
wanted to move any more. At last his prey arrived. He
watched it, such creatures rarely come this far down, for
its need of oxygen kept it near the surface. It was
searching, perhaps for its own prey. He was about to snatch
out, his lips pulled back showing his discolored layered
teeth, when he saw his prey thrash about in surprise,
tentacles wrapped around it.
It was a sight much talked about but never seen. A
battle between a whale and a giant squid, incredible to
behold. Godzilla would have smiled if he could, he was
going to get two meals out of one, as he let out a
tremendous roar and ripped the two entangled opponents
apart.
"General!!"
"Yes?"
"An emergency report from our battleships!!"
"Hand it here...MASAKA!! Captain, we have no time to
lose. Put us on yellow alert. Prey it doesn't turn to
red."
The general turned around to stare at the large
screens, some of them showing areas of Tokyo and other parts
of Japan, others showing scenes from space satellites. He
stared at his slight reflection, his medals gleaming.
"Twenty years..." he whispered, "twenty years..."
\TO DIE/ Part One
The Mercedes, something rarely seen in Nerima, stopped
in front of the gates. Two men in black suits quickly
strode out and stood at attention in front of the gate. One
opened the back door, helping an elderly man of sixty years
out.
"So, this is the place?" The old man's voice spoke of
strength and intelligence despite his years.
"Yes, sir!!"
"Good. Let's go in, shall we."
Ranma ducked just in time as Akane's kick swung over
his head, then ducked the punch that immediately followed.
"Why don't you ever retaliate!!" Akane swung another
angry punch.
"It'd be too easy," Ranma answered, easily avoiding
another one.
"How am I ever supposed to get better!" Akane tried a
couple of kicks, her eyes squinted down in anger and shame.
"Do you want me too?" Ranma easily avoided all, not
even having to block.
"YES!!"
"OK." All of the sudden Akane found herself defending
desperately, hardly bring her arms up in time, as she took
step after step back.
"He's not even trying," she had time to think as she
tripped over her own feet backwards.
"Whoah!" Ranma exclaimed lunging forward and caught
her in his arms.
He held her for a second. One glorious, sensuously
tender, and passionate second. Then Akane drove her fist
into Ranma's ribs.
They entered the Tendo home to find Soun Tendo weeping
as he ran about in panic.
"What to dooooo? What to dooooo?" Soun ran about some
more.
"Pop!! What is it!" Ranma turned to the panda.
"Check out the television..." Nabiki's voice was
missing its sarcastic bite, hidden by a layer of wonder.
"He's BACK!! He's BACK!!" Soun had grabbed Ranma by
the shirt and was nearly strangling him.
"AH!!" Ranma struggled to get out of Soun's way. "Let
go!!"
"Father!! Quiet!!" Nabiki held her father's hand.
All went silent, shocked by Nabiki's action.
Akane stared at the t.v. screen. "Godzilla..." she
whispered.
"Yeah," said Nabiki, "so there's no time to waste. We
got to pack everything. Ranma, please pack the television,
the fridge, and the stove. I have stuff to pack." Nabiki
quickly strode upstairs.
Soun quickly entered another fit.
"Oh, come on!! Godzilla!! What a load of bull!!"
KONK!!
"OW!!" Ranma held his head.
"SHUT UP, RANMA!!" Genma had turned back to a man.
"You have no idea what had happened twenty years ago!!"
"AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!" The two men in suits flew out the
window.
"I told you not to point the guns," Kyusaku took a drag
from his cigarette.
"Nuku-Nuku warn you that she protect Papa-san!!"
"W-w-w-wait-t!! I'm from the government!!" The old
man crawled back in fear.
"AAHHhhhh!!" Kyusaku was in fine form tonight. "The
government..." Kyusaku looked like he was in thought,
"COMING TO LOOK FOR MY annnnddrroooiidd?" Kyusaku's voice
turned sickenly sweet at the end as he rubbed the chin of
the old man. Then jumped up and turned around walking
toward his room. "Nuku-Nuku!! Now please show this man how
angry you are. Think about it as a lesson in cruelty, a
trait that all humans have."
"Okay Papa-san!" Nuku-Nuku smiled a toothy grin as she
pounded her foot down into the old man's hand. He screamed
in horrid pain then was forcefully shut upped by Nuku's fist
slamming his lower jaw into his upper one. Nuku-Nuku began
to kick into his ribs, his back on the floor along the wall,
driving him up it.
Kyusaku peeked around the corner. "OY!! Nuku-Nuku!!"
"Yes, Papa-san?"
"I was kidding. I just wanted to scare him. Just show
him to the door."
"Yes, Papa-san!"
"WAIT!! The future of Japan lies in your hands
Kyusaku!!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, you all want my android! For more
war toys!"
"Please!! I beseech you!!" Nuku-Nuku picked him up by
the head, his feet several inches off the ground. "The TV,
THE TV!! TURN IT ON, YOU'LL SEE!!"
"Nuku-Nuku!! STOP!!"
"Yes, Papa-san!!" Nuku-Nuku dropped the old man, who
began to cough, horrid, hairy coughs, smelling of ancient
bones and death.
Kyusaku turned on the t.v.
He flipped through the channels as he slowly pushed his
hair out of his eyes in amazement. Every channel was on
news alert!! "Masaka..." he whispered. "Ryusuke!! Nuku-
Nuku!!"
The Tendo house was strangely quiet except for a grunt
or two as something heavy was lifted.
"But, Mr. Saotome!! We don't even know if that monster
will go through Nerima!" Akane shifted her arms to hold the
large vase that her dead mother prized so much.
"Akane, it doesn't matter. That creature moves much
more faster than you'd think. No one knows where it wants
to go and even if it heads toward Tokyo or Osaka, we need to
be ready to move at the slightest warning. When panic
erupts its going to be slow moving to escape. We need to be
ready!"
Ranma quickly put some padding in a box and settled the
tv gently in it. He had never heard his father sound so
reassuring and reasonable. But then again, this still might
be a hoax. He quickly taped up the box and ran upstairs to
listen to the radio.
He passed by Mr. Tendo's room and quickly peeked in.
Soun was quickly packing pictures of his dead wife and
muttering nearly insanely to himself or to his long dead
wife. "Dear, dear, dear, he's back. He's BACK!! What
should we do!! What should we do!! He's almost here.
Almost here!!"
Ranma has seen Mr. Tendo's fits before but this was
unlike anything before. Even from the doorway Ranma could
see his fingers convulsing and the veins along his forehead
showing clearly against the pale white skin. Ranma wanted
to enter, to somehow calm this kind man who had given, not
only him, but others of need, food and shelter. He was
about to slide the door fully open when he felt his father's
familiar hand on his shoulder. He turned his head and said,
"Oyaji?"
Ranma's father was weeping too. "Ranma, please leave.
The situation we're in has awakened old memories within
Soun. Go, hurry. We must be ready to leave, for Soun's
sake and his daughters."
At that, Genma shoved his son down the hallway and
entered the room, sliding the door behind him, to help his
friend of over thirty years.
"It will be another twenty hours before that monster
arrives. We estimate that he's heading towards Osaka.
Already we have the new Mechagodzilla outfitted with the
latest in technology. But we need more, Kyusaku!! We need
your android!!"
Kyusaku lighted another cigarette as he calmy packed
some things. "Ryu!!"
"Yes, father?"
"Call your mother."
"What!?"
"You're staying with her until this is over."
"But, father, I want..."
"No buts, Ryu!! Sir, have your driver take my son over
to Mishima."
"But father, what about you?"
"I'm going with them, Ryu-san. Nuku-Nuku too."
"NO!! I want to go with you!!" A large hand grabbed
Ryu's. he could feel himself being dragged out. "Father!!"
But Kyusaku had turned himself away from his son's
pleas. A vile government base was no place for a little
boy. Especially his own son. He turned back to the
official who was busy poking several places on Nuku-Nuku's
body.
"Neh!! Stop it!! Tickles!" Nuku-Nuku squirmed as the
old man peeked underneath her dress.
"Fascinating!" The old man looked all over her.
Kyusaku grabbed the old man by his collar and began to
shake him. "We have a nation wide emergency on our hands
and YOU'RE LOOKING UP MY DAUGHTER'S PANTS!!"
The old man's eyes opened wide in surprise as he said,
"Sorry, sorry! Just wondering how you managed to make such
a perfect android!"
"Now, get one of those goons to get some private jet or
helicopter and get me towards your base, NOW!!!" Kyusaku
blew out all of the smoke in his lungs over the old man's
face as he shook him even harder. "I just might have time
to add something nice to your `MechaGodzilla.'"
He had already encountered some of the `small hard
things' that always bothered him everytime he came out from
the depths of the seas. Godzilla was a creature of
instinct, not thought. When hungry, he eats. When tired,
he sleeps. When angry, he destroys. But once in a while,
something within him told him to do something. To go
somewhere. If Godzilla had a larger memory, he might have
remembered the last time he came to Japan in search of one
of his brethren, recently born.
But now, now, something else pulled him toward that
area that had given him so much pain before. Something
pulled him to go towards, then past it.
Ranma and Akane stood in the dining room putting
various things away.
"I always thought he was just a myth, a movie thing."
"So did I."
The two sat in silence for a couple of moments. Then
Ranma slowly turned toward Akane. "Akane?"
Akane faced him, "Yes?"
"How did your mother die?"
Akane's eyes widened then lowered. "Why do you ask?"
"Because I realize I don't know much about your
family."
Akane was silent as old memories surged through her
head. Good ones of loving arms and warm beds and fun
bedtime stories. Bad ones of a silent father and a cold,
cold body, hardly stirring, and small painful coughs. "It's
been twelve years," started Akane, "since mother died. I
was three."
Ranma stopped packing as he listened closely, his eyes
set sternly toward his fiancee who was looking down.
"It was a sad time, although Nabiki perhaps faced the
worst of it. Kasumi was too busy taking care of me and
making sure I was happy and house chores and cooking.
Father...father didn't talk for almost a year. I remember
Kasumi and Nabiki being worried that perhaps father might
follow mother. But as you can see, he's gotten better.
Mother had some disease that she had gotten before I was
born. Her and father had thought it was cured. Then I was
born and two years later it returned. Mother began to cough
horribly, her every breathe painful." Akane had to stop,
forcing herself to breath calmly.
She went on. "Mother held on for a year. She wanted
to see all of us grow up, not just Kasumi, but according to
Kasumi, she was a frail woman, yet strong minded. Father
would sometimes mention a story about how once a boy was
constantly bothering Kasumi during grade school and she had
slapped him. The mother had come complaining over, but
mother rolled right over her." Akane smiled, pausing for a
second, remembering the last time father had told that story
and Kasumi had reminded father that he must of told Akane a
hundred times. "She was strong and graceful, father would
always say about mother, that's why I loved her, he would
say."
Ranma stared at his fiancee, surprised at the amount of
passion that poured from Akane's soul. He searched his own
memory and found nearly nothing about his own mother, except
for recent times. Oyaji never mentions mother either,
thought Ranma. He suddenly found himself incredibly jealous
of Akane and at the same time sorry. He wanted to reach out
his hand and hold hers, but something kept him in check.
Akane went on, "I remember the day clearly," Akane had
to take another large shaking breathe, "The day before,
mother had seemed to take a turn for the better. Mother was
holding me in her hands, talking gayly, when...when...,"
Akane stopped, gripping her fists, trying to contain the
tears. The memory was too much. The blood coming out in
short violent coughs, staining her little pink dress.
Father's cry of near panic.
Ranma reached out his hand and covered hers. He knew
it was right. He did no more and could do no more. He
watched her deal with her past and did nothing more.
But at the same time he was angered. Angered at
himself that he could do no more than just hold her hand.
That he could do absolutely nothing to dam the flow of harsh
memory that made his fiancee, yes fiancee!, cry so.
So, they sat, toward each other, one crying, the
other's face locked in solemn watch, as the rest of the
household hurriedly prepared for the worst.
"Nice to meet you, sir." Kyusaku took the hand of the
General.
"Same here, same here. Let's be frank. We need your
genius, sir."
"I know. Just point me out toward your labs and I can
get started."
"We can't do that."
"What!!"
"There are procedures to make sure that information is
locked tight."
"How long will that take."
"At least a week."
"We don't have a week!!"
"Yes. But we do have your android."
"No, you don't."
"Yes, we do."
"No, you don't." Kyusaku lit another cigarette. He
hated Generals.
"Men, I think we need to persuade our guest."
"Nuku-Nuku, don't be too cruel."
"NOBODY HURTS PAPA-SAN!!"
CRASH!! BOOOM!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
"OK, we don't have your android."
"I'm quite sure whoever your superior is will be quite
upset if he found out that you weren't doing everything in
your power to stop the monster, and also upset that you were
solely responsibly for losing Mishima's governmental support
at the same time."
"What are you talking about?"
"Aren't you aware that my esteemed wife is the
President of Mishima Corp.? At my word, she could pull the
trillions of dollars that help support the Japanese
Government military."
"What!! Why didn't anyone tell me!!?" The general
barked around him at his wounded soldiers.
"We thought you knew," said one weakly before passing
out.
Kyusaku lightly elbowed Nuku-Nuku as he put his mouth
to her ear. "Smooth, no?"
"Uh!!" Nuku-Nuku nodded, wiping the blood off her
knuckles.
"Well, c'mon, sir. We'll show you to our labs."
"Hurry!! Now!!"
"Maam!!"
"What is it!" Akiko kept her eyes locked on the
several reports that were coming in. She was confident that
with Mishima supporting the military, that the creature
could be conquered, but she had needed to make sure that
Mishima was left in competent hands and that was her. They
had less then fifteen hours to prepare.
"Your son." Kyouko led the boy in.
"Mother."
"Ryusuuke!!" Akiko ran to her boy's side. "How did
you get here?"
Ryusuuke looked bitterly away. "Father sent me here.
He said it was too dangerous."
Akiko stroked her son's face. She could not think of
anything better to happen. At last, Mishima would be tested
to its fullest and she would have her son here to watch his
mother at her finest. She would not fail. "Ryusuuke.
Stand next to me. You shall see how your mother handles the
problems of a nation!"
