Because of the fact that during a competition of this sort, a medical 
examination must be done on the participants apprxomately 20 minutes 
before it starts, Ranma would have had to have been entered as a female 
contestant from Furinkan High School.  When Ranma gave her name out to 
the audience, it would also have been entered into the records that 
Saotome Ranma was a female student.  Of course, that was one of the 
reasons that Akane's face was like that.

I am ashamed to admit I never saw the first 6 episodes. (I have them on 
mail order due next tuesday, ok? :)
