It looks like a few of you have already stumbled into some things with
the new list.
If you are subscribed to the list with one email address, the list will
get upset if you attempt to send mail to the list from another address.
There are two possible solutions to this problem:
1. Make sure you always send mail from the address you subscribed from.
2. If you want or need to send mail from a different address than you
subscribed with, then subscribe the new address(es) to the list, then
'set ffml vacation' on the ones you don't want to receive list mail
from.
(ie. send a mail to ffml-request@ffml.zre.ca with 'set ffml vacation' in
the subject or body of the message)
The second issue is that the new list has limits on how much you can
quote from a previous poster. The limits are fairly generous, but some
people have tripped over them already. The limits are:
- No more than 20 consecutive lines may be quoted.
- No more than 50% of the message may be quoted.
- The above limits aren't enforced on short messages under 20 lines
long.
OK, third issue. Some people who unsubscribed in the last six months or
so may find themselves 'resubscribed' again. Unfortunately, due to not
being able to get a completely up-to-date subscriber list, the
subscriber list had to be pieced together from two different sources,
and if you unsubscribed in the six months or so previous to the old list
going down, this will not be reflected. Simply unsubscribe again, or
email me about it, and I will remove the address in question.
Likewise, if you set any flags other than 'vacation' in the last six
months or so, this will also not be reflected. Simply set the flag
again if this is the case.
About the Google group: My understanding is that this was a temporary
replacement in the same vein as the replacement lists that sprang up
before when the list was down. In the end, it's up to the creator of
that group to decide what its future is now that the 'real' FFML is
back.
