Is that how many it comes to? I track my writing by the kilobyte rather
than the page, and this chapter weighs in at an impressive 155 of those.

And when I started this whole fanfiction thing I considered 40 KB to be
a big chapter, too...

That depends on how much detail you put into it. I'm not saying this should
have been written differently, but it's very possible to condense an entire
tournament into a few lines per fight. (Can't give you a direct example in
fanfic right now since it's been a while, but for an example in Anime, take
the tournament in Kiba - all of which except for the final match was
condensed into half an episode...)

Of course, and I did gloss over some of the fights a little. I think
there were enough fights with plot significance or that I wanted to
write out fully for other reasons (like Tenten vs. Chouji) that glossing
too much over the handful of remaining fights would have looked odd.

Besides, there wasn't much in the way of glossing over in the canon
Chuunin Exam (particularly in the anime version), so I had to better
that and do an uninterrupted one in more or less full detail. :)

I could not produce anything of this length in years, so I'm not
complaining. I think I've missed one of the latest chapters, though - maybe
more than one. Had some e-mail trouble.

If you have any idea of what chapters you might have missed, I'd be
happy to send them your way directly.

I'm hoping for a daring, none-too-well-thought-out rescue of a certain
masked lazy bastard by his former pupil... and nearly half the Leaf gang
wearing vests...

Well, I'm not certain all of that will make it into Chapter 12, but you
should be happy with the future course of the story. :)
