{Unfotunately : Unfortunately}, their pace was not consistent.  The
river twisted and turned, while the Reikoku remained on an unerringly
direct course towards its prey.  Sometimes it shambled into the water
as it pursued to the point of being completely immersed, but it was
able to ignore the resistance of the water effortlessly, never
deviating from its speed or course for an instant.  They were not
pulling away from it as quickly as they had hoped they might.
