Well...
When you take them for granted, blow off ideas they have, and ingore
what they say unless it's "OMG THIS ROCKS" that happens.

I have had dozens of request for readers asking to be a prereader, some
going as far as listing what they could do to help me: be it grammar, plot
or characterization. Then when I send them a fict, a few of them the same
day they asked to be prereaders, and never receive a single message from
them. Not a word. Years and many chapters later, still nothing from them.

Obviously it has nothing to do with me ignoring their comments as they have
to make one in the first place. For some people out there, they think
'prereaders' means not having to look for the update of their favorite
stories as they get it emailed to them, even if in a bit of raw form. It's
an issue of laziness on the part of the so-called 'prereaders' that Rebecca
noted.

I can understand issues arising that prevent replies for a few months, or
even moving away from anime and fanfiction altogether. However, if you like
a fanfiction enough to ask to be a prereader, then some effort should be put
in to actually help the author improve the story.

My prereader list is at about twenty names, and only five of them have sent
any comment in the past year. With Second Chances chapter 23 sent to them
yesterday, I expect two replies and hope for four. (For those who want to
see it in raw form:

) Needless to say, my prereader list needs a bit of trimming again...
