I have the re-read these more carefully - I didn't notice there was a
Hannay in there as well...

De Richelieu is from Martin Amis' series of books of spy stories and
the supernatural. Classic British pulp at its best.

I thought of Dennis Wheatley's Duke de Richleau (The Devil Rides Out etc.).
(The combination of name, difference in appearance and spy & supernatural
stories doesn't seem like a coincidence.)
