    Sounds loosely parallel to Ian Banks' "Culture" novels -- what's called 
a "post-scarcity society" in SF circles.
    Usually makes for a boring story setting, unless said society is 
collapsing or under attack, or the story centers around mavericks and 
misfits operating out on the fringes (as this one apparently does).
