Did my server miss a post, or was Lurker's original reply private?
If it
was, shame on Aishuu-san.

My apologies - I don't believe it was, but I've been getting Lurker's
replies to other things? I have a hard time tracking, since all of my
my posts are automatically set to reply privately and I do usually do
that, but I found this very interesting, and I was hoping to
stimulate discussion.

Which it has. Hopefully he will forgive me for a SNAFU.

Postcognitive is past, precognitive is future. I'm not sure
there IS a
term for dreams of the present.

Sure there is. It's slipping me, but someone else will surely
chime in... nudge Richard? Or is there some other grammarian
on this list? What is the right prefix to indicate the
present? I'll kick myself when I hear it...

Someone said "clairvoyant", but clairvoyance is also used for both
pre- and
postcognition.

Clairavoyance covers a wide range of talents, but that would probably
be the most acccurate word. There might be something more specific,
though... For some reason, I am under the impression their might be.

I think Sakura's and Harry's dreams run some interesting parallels
which might have some fic potential, should ELL choose to explore
them. However, this is a very sound grounding of a fic which can go
in multiple directions. The fact that I was wrong about the Syaoran
aspect has totally made me lose direction - I have no clue where this
is going, since I got distracted by something minor. It's a fault of
mine, since I fixate on details and miss what may be a "larger
picture" item.

Hmmm.. but I rather feel that ignoring them is a mistake as
well, since they're such a big part of Sakura's world-view.

Not having seen CCS, I can't comment much on that angle, but having
Sakura
miss/not miss some of the characters she's left behind is enough
for me.
That, and maybe comparing nuisances and new friends to the old
ones. And I
agree that killing characters off solely to not have to write about
them is
bad - killing them off to motivate the character is not.

Agreed. And the tone of this piece... well, I can see killing off one
of the characters who IS in the piece (ONE mind you, ONE!) but not
killing off one of the off-screen characters unless it's a "Voldemort
Attacks and Sakura wasn't There" thing.

But I do believe the other characters should be worked in as a
"missing you, owling you." I DO NOT believe that working them in as
other students would be a good idea, though Eriol would probably be a
reasonable choice if that's going to happen (we know he's back in
England)... However, I've seen him in fics as the DADD prof, which IS
stretching it.

I'm trying to remember where I found those fics in particular, since
I've had requests. Most were on ff.net, and I found them by digging.
FUN. Gold amidst dross... and there's a lot of dross.

Someone, somewhere, has written/will write a "Scream" ripoff using
the Ranma
cast... (It's not me, and I don't want links.)

EVERYTHING has been crossed with Scream. PLEASE do not share.

Nah, Dudley's redeemable. It's the other Dursleys that are
mired in
their own shortsightedness.

Oh... I disagree. He's supposed to be a two-sided, flat
character. The evil stepbrother who simply can't be saved.

So is Draco, for that matter.

*Laughs* I haven't been reading HP fiction for very long, but the
second
story I came across did an excellent job of redeeming Draco, only
to have
Voldie pull him down. Too bad it's a blatant ANC fic, though.

Oh, some fanfics do a great job. I was refering to JK. I believe she
has stated that there will be no redemption for him.... too bad, I
rather like him.

HP fandom is a scary, scary place. You thought the Ranma fiancee
argument was bad?

You ain't seen nothing yet...

As for hunting for Cho fics, good luck. She's a hated character,
often turned into a bitch to raise up Hermione, Ginny or Draco (these
are the most common shippers). I would recommend schnoogle.com as the
place to find those epic fics you love. The quality of writing is so
much higher than ff.net.
