I don't understand the first half of this sentence.
I'm pretty sure it's a typo, but I -think- it's supposed to be read
as:
"True, but most of them think you, or Kasumi, know a little ..."
"Ah, the swimming pool," the man said, giving Ranko a
grin. "Good thinking. Sure you're gonna be able to carry two
full buckets of water?"
Yuck. Is chlorinated pool water safe even after boiling? I know when
there was major flooding here in Iowa back in 1993 bringing in trucks of
drinking water was one of the first things they did. An out door pool is
going to be just as contaminated as a ditch after flooding.
Well, not everyone is as fanatical about chlorinating pool water as
most Americans, for one. For another, even water as highly
chlorinated as your average swimming pool won't hurt you, at least
not for temporary use. It might disgust you, and it certainly won't
taste the best, but it won't hurt you (long-term use, of course, is
a Bad Idea... but for a few days? You'd be fine.)
And as far as contamination goes, chlorinated water is actually at
an advantage -- after all, what's the chlorine for in the first
place? To kill microorganisms... as such, while it might be murky,
it'd be safer than (say) a canal, river, or pond. Boiled and
distilled seawater probably wouldn't be as safe, even; there's enough
chemicals present in even the cleanest bay of a metropolitan area
that don't break down into harmless compounds after boiling that I'd
still be scared of drinking it.
