*****************************************************************

Ranko came out of the furo and padded barefoot to the breakfast
table.

She sat down on the side of the table next to Nabiki, across from
Ranma-chan and Akane, who were blushing slightly and were hanging
their heads.

"Finally, I feel clean. Running around in that dustbowl of your
mind makes me happy for hot water and a bar of soap." Ranko
yawned. She then noticed the expression on Akane's face.
"What's wrong?"

Akane looked up and directly at her. "You kept me up half the
night last night and gave poor Ranma a fright."

Ranko looked puzzled. "I was downstairs the entire time. How
could I have kept you awake?"

It was Ranma-chan's turn to look up. She noticed the evil grin
and how Ranma's eyes began to slit. "Let me refresh you memory
Ko-chan."

Ranma stood up and hopped into Kasumi's lap. She laid one hand
on the larger girl's shoulder and the other around her waist.
"Oh Kasumi. You have ALWAYS been my one true love. I never
really wanted Akane. I hope you can forgive me." Ranma-chan
put her left wrist to her forehead in a mock display of
faintness.

Kasumi began to giggle softly. She put one arm on Ranma-chan's
rear and the other upon her cheek, turning the girl's gaze until
they were eye to eye. "Ranma-chan, my love. Let me undress you
and show you the true joy of being a woman."

It was Ranko's turn to blush. Her face turning shades of red
that would make a tomato jealous.

Akane closed her eyes, and stated flatly. "And I don't even know
what your mind had Nabiki and Shampoo doing. But it did SOUND
realistic."

Nabiki's eyes were wide. "What are you talking about, and how
come I don't remember any of this?"

Ranma-chan answered. "Akane, Ranko and I and see each other's
dreams. Ranko had a very... graphic one last night. She paired
me with Kasumi and you with Shampoo, so she could have Akane all
to herself."

Kasumi was giggling. "Aww, how sweet."

Akane continued flatly. "I'm flattered you thought of me that
way, but I can't say that I can return your feelings, Ranko. You
are a nice person and all, but I already have one emotional wreck
of a redheaded girl to keep me busy."

"Aww, I'm not that bad, am I Akane?" Pouted Ranma.

Kasumi giggled again. She decided to break the awkward moment
with an even more awkward moment. "I have a secret."

Ranma turned toward her. "What is it?"

Kasumi turned Ranma-chan so she was facing out, then put both
arms around her. "I have dreamed about you and I sleeping
together peacefully, your bare skin against mine. It always
makes me feel good, just thinking about it."

It was Ranma-chan's turn to blush a shade of red as deep as
Ranko.

Akane was staring at her sister with a look of total shock.
"Kasumi, are you serious?"

Her older sister closed her eyes and smiled. She hugged
Ranma-chan just a little tighter. "I have held you so many
times. You trusted me enough that you have fallen asleep in my
arms. I started to wonder what it would be like if we were both
sleeping together. Just sleeping, nothing .... Well, it always
warmed my heart."

Ranma turned toward to look into Kasumi's eyes. He saw her
caring nature and the love within.

"I do trust you, Kasumi. Thanks for always being there for me.
If that would make you happy, I'll be there for you."

Akane was sitting there. She had questioned her own heart and it
had shown her the truth about herself. Now she saw her sister
with a new understanding. Slowly, she willed herself to ask.

"Kasumi? Does this mean you like girls?"

Kasumi's eyes flew open, a smile now on her face. She raised her
head from being in Ranma-chan's hair. Turning toward Nabiki,
their eyes met. Instantly they both burst into fits of giggles.

Akane was getting angry. "What's so funny?"

Nabiki calmed herself enough to speak. "You just realized that?
Akane, you are so dense. I'll bet you didn't even know why I
sleep over at Yunika's house so often?"

Ranko, who was sitting next to Nabiki, shook her head. "Nah, you
aren't. You're just trying to make their heads explode. Well,
it won't work on me."

Nabiki now sported an evil grin. "Ranko, do you have Ranma's
memories of the day he came here?"

Ranko nodded.

Nabiki turned, and put her hand on Ranko's left breast and gave
it two quick squeezes through her shirt. "Remember this? 'One
hundred percent female I'd say!'"

Ranko was blushing again.

Nabiki sat there laughing out loud when she felt a pair of arms
around her waist. "Wo ai ne Arien." Came the cooing voice of
Shampoo.

Nabiki quickly hopped up and out of reach of the purple haired
girl. She then fled to her room.

Shampoo's shoulders slumped for a moment. The normal happy smile
replaced for just a split second, but that was all it took.

Ranma-chan had watched the entire scene and had seen everything.
In her mind, something clicked and she recognized what she was
looking at.

As Shampoo went to stand up and leave, smiling and pretending
that she was just joking, she felt a hand on her wrist.

She turned to see Ranma-chan looking at her with eyes filling
with tears.

Ranma spoke. "I'm sorry Shampoo, I never knew."

A few seconds of silence as everyone else tried to understand
what was going on.

Ranma-chan urged her to sit down in front of her. The Amazon
was hesitant, but thanks to Ranma-chan's iron grip she finally
submitted and sat in front of Ranma-chan, who proceeded to put
her arms around Shampoo's waist.

No one said anything. The silence was deafening as confusion
rained. Ranma was just hugging her. Nothing perverted, almost
like Nodoka had held Ranma several times in the past.

The silence was broken as Shampoo broke down and began crying.
Tears came in waves and she tried to speak, but in her condition,
all that came out was mumbling cries and sniffling. Ranma-chan
continued to hold her, never speaking.

Kasumi joined Ranma in trying to comfort Shampoo. Ranko
continued to watch, stunned at what she was seeing, while Akane
tried to understand what was happening.

Finally she got it. She turned to Ranko. "Do you think Shampoo
has been treated as badly as Ranma?"

Ranko nodded. "It never occurred to me. She seemed so happy, so
bouncy."

Akane replied. "Ranma fooled all of us. Why couldn't she."

Ranko nodded. "Good point."

*****************************************************************

Ranma-kun was hugging Shampoo from behind. Ranko, Akane, Nodoka,
Nabiki and Kasumi were sitting around the other side of the table
waiting for some explanation from the Amazon sitting before them.

"Uhm, Shampoo have secret too."

Nabiki looked at her through slitted eyes. "This I gotta hear."
Kasumi hushed her and Akane jabbed her in the ribs.

Shampoo sighed. "I should start by dropping the silly voice."
This stopped the entire room. It wasn't as high pitch, and she
spoke softly and eloquently.

"I'm not as stupid as I wanted all of you to believe. I did it
mostly so the old ghoul would lose faith in me." She hung her
head and Ranma gave her another hug.

"All my life, I have been trained to be a warrior. After my
mother died, Cologne started taking care of me the best way she
knew. She just never loved me."

"She told me I didn't have time for friends. I became an outcast
within my own tribe. Hidden away to train and brought out only
to win tournaments."

"I saw the kiss of death as my escape. I could get away and
never return. I could have gotten Ranma more times than I can
count. But as long as you got away, it meant I could chase you
further away from the village. I was hoping that when you
finally went home, I could apologize and try to be your friend."

Ranma-chan had been listening, and decided to ask. "So why'd you
run back when you found out about my curse?"

Shampoo began to cry again. "It wasn't your curse. I saw
another. Cologne had sent someone to follow me and make sure
that I finished the job. I had to get away from you. She would
have made sure I killed you if I tried to fake it. I realized I
could never run away, so I went back to the village, hoping my
disgrace would...."

Shampoo was having trouble saying it. She was shaking. Nodoka
added. "Hoping they would make you commit Seppuku."

Between sniffles Shampoo nodded. The group was shocked. "I
don't have my own life, I'm just her toy. I just wanted it to
end. I had... I have no one who really cares about me."

Ranma hugged her a little tighter. "That's not true. You had a
reason to come back, didn't you?"

Shampoo only started crying harder. "Cologne got me to fight her
at Jusenkyo. That you know. I never told her I knew about your
curse, But she found out thanks to the guide. That was when she
decided to ship me to you in a box in my cursed form."

"I went with it. I was going to crawl out of the box and hope
you would fall in love with me as a cat. I would have stayed
that way and been your pet forever, giving up everything. I
actually dreamed of you holding me and it hurts that you are
afraid of my cursed form."

"Cologne showed up soon after and I haven't been able to run away
ever since. Moose is actually watching me for Cologne, though he
doesn't know it. He tells her where I've been thinking he is
trying to gain her trust, but she's just using him."

Ranma continued to hold her. "I'm sorry Shampoo. I wish I could
have helped."

Shampoo shook her head. "I don't blame you. I have been using
you yet you don't seem to mind."

Ranma sighed. His gaze off in space somewhere. "Everyone has
used me for one reason or another, but I can forgive yours. I
never imagined you would have given up your life that day. I
guess I can see it though; I was willing to do the same. I
nearly gave up who I was just for my mother." At this Nodoka
felt a tear roll down her cheek.

"Worst part of this, is having a cat around to love doesn't sound
so bad."

Shampoo went from tears to stunned with wide eyes in a fraction
of a second. "Ranma. Did you just say you wanted a cat?"

Akane smiled. She dipped her fingers into a cup of cold tea.
Her ears and tail popping up and into view. "Ranma isn't afraid
of cats anymore. And look what he did to me the other day."

Shampoo was further surprised. "Ranma gave you a curse? How is
that possible?"

Ranko replied flatly. "Ranma now controls the magic. It is his
to do with as he pleases. If he wishes it, it will happen.
Within reason of course."

Ranma laughed. "Thanks to Ranko, and Akane, I'm not afraid of
cats, and in fact I would love to have a pet. Has anyone ever
treated you like a real cat before?"

Shampoo shook her head. "The guide at the springs spent a few
minutes petting me until cologne had the hot water ready. It
felt really good, but other than that, no."

Ranma grinned. "Well, it sounds like you didn't get enough.
I'll fix that."

Shampoo looked like a deer caught in headlights as she felt the
hair on her back rise.

The change occurred instantly. Neko-Shampoo crawled out of her
clothes and mewed at a now female Ranma, who giggled and picked
her up, cuddling her in her arms.

"Aww, you're so cute Shampoo. If you promise not to claw or
bite, I promise not to hurt you. I got a pretty good idea what
will make you feel better." Ranma-chan smiled and winked at
Akane.

Shampoo was lying on Ranma-chan's arm as she cradled her. She
wasn't helpless but she had made a promise not to hurt Ranma.

As scared as she was being a cat, something told her that she was
with friends. Friends she didn't know she had.

Ranko and Kasumi sat down next on either side of Ranma-chan, so
they could take part.

Ranma started by closing her hand gently around one of Shampoo's
paws. She slowly pulled her hand away and let the fur slide
through. Shampoo couldn't put into words how it made her feel.
But she began to purr just the same. She didn't even know how
she was doing it, but it only seemed to urge Ranma on.

Ranma-chan repeated it on the other front limb before moving to
the top of her head. Gentle scratching behind the ears turned
into long strokes across her back from the back of Ranma-chan's
fingers. A tiny mew escaped which only made her attacker giggle
again and change to combing with her fingertips.

Shampoo found herself falling asleep. She was enjoying being
rubbed like a cat. She couldn't keep her eyes open, the
sensations was overwhelming. Her skin was tingling, her entire
body relaxed and she drifted into dreamland.

Ranma-chan smiled. "She seems happy now." Kasumi and Ranko lent
a hand toward Ranma's little captive and if Shampoo had been
human and awake, she would swear she was getting a full body
massage.

Ranko started to giggle. "Aww look mom, she followed us home.
Can we keep her? She's so polite and well mannered."

Nodoka was smirking. "Am I adopting a cat or another daughter?"

Ranma-chan turned to look at her mother. "Both."

*****************************************************************

Nodoka hung up the phone. "Well Ranko, It is settled. You can
start school tomorrow."

Ranma gave his twin sister a hug. "Tomorrow we'll go to school
together. I'm feeling pretty good myself, so we will all be
there to help you Ko-chan."

Ranko was smiling happily. Sandwiched between Ranma-kun and
Akane as they ate lunch. Neko-Shampoo was sleeping in Nabiki's
lap, being scratched behind her ears.

Nabiki looked up from her furry companion. "Hey Ranma. You seem
to be fixing most of your fianc problems. What are you going to
do about Ukyo? Turn her into a mouse and let Shampoo eat her?"

Ranma's eyes slitted and he grinned. He lifted a finger toward
Nabiki, a small blue ball gathered on the end. "Don't tempt me
Nabiki. I could change you into...."

Nabiki put up her hands. "No, please. I take it back. I don't
wanna be a sloth or something."

Ranma put his hand down, the ball of light dissolving into the
air. "I was just teasing you Nabiki."

Nodoka and Kasumi started fussing about getting a school uniform
for Ranko. Ranma laughed and ran upstairs, returning a few
moments later with a girl's uniform.

"Here sis. I got a feeling it should fit you pretty good." He
said with an evil smile.

Akane started giggling. "Too bad you don't cross-dress more
often Ranma. You could have an entire wardrobe for Ranko."

Ranko turned to look at Akane with a surprised look. "And you
accuse Ranma of putting his foot in his mouth!"

Kasumi started to giggle and turn toward Nodoka. "That gives me
an idea. We should take Ranma along when we shop for some proper
clothes for Ranko."

Nodoka turned an inquisitive face toward her. "Why would we....
oh yes, that is great idea Kasumi!"

Kasumi and Nodoka turned to look at Ranma who started feeling
trapped. "I'll bet it because I would be another model for
fitting Ranko, isn't it?"

Akane was surprised at his unusual calmness despite the twin nods
from Kasumi and Nodoka.

Ranko turned and gave Ranma a hug. "Don't worry niisan, you
don't have to go."

Ranma shifted into a girl and shook her head. "No, I'll go.
I've wondered what picking out girl's clothes with mom would be
like."

Akane and Ranko both felt a brief pain from Ranma. "I was scared
once that I would like dresses and stuff and would want to be a
girl forever. But I'm not scared anymore."

She added. "Besides, it will make the trip go a little faster
and maybe we can get some clothes that match, or at least two
pair so we can look like mirror twins. I think that would drive
Kuno and Ryoga up the wall."

Ranko hugged Ranma-chan. "Don't be scared neesan. I gave you
the choice to make you feel better, not to dig up old fears
again."

Ranma-chan shook her head. "No, it's not that." She paused a
few moments before continuing. "I just have a request I would
like a little help with."

Nodoka took up the cause. She had her arms around both of her
daughters. "I don't understand Ranma. What do you need? You
know you can count on us."

Ranma-chan laughed twice. A manner, which was obvious that she
was not laughing at all. Short, almost barking laughs and then
hung her head.

Ranko said. "Maybe neesan would like some help in picking out
something nice and is scared to ask. Akane always said you
looked trashy whenever you wore a dress."

Akane heard this and hung her head. Ranko started to giggle.
"Frankly, she was right. Your choice in clothes borders on
warped and colorblind."

Nodoka was still pondering. "It's more than just dresses isn't
it? There is something more ... that you are worried about
asking for help with?"

Ranma-chan's face was red, but she nodded. Ranko nodded as well.
"Oh, I had forgotten about that. Momma, when Ranma was forced to
be a girl full time thanks to Cologne, someone was nice enough to
help her solve a training issue."

Nodoka seemed a little confused. "What do you mean dear?"

Kasumi spoke up. "Ranma told me she was suffering from back
strain. We went and choose a few small matching items for her to
wear until she got cured. Ranma asked me to throw them away soon
after."

Ranma-chan hung her head. "Please don't laugh, but I kinda liked
how they felt. I was just too focused on being a man to
understand it. I'm curious now and I thought it's something I
need beings I'm a girl half the time."

Nabiki commented flatly with a slight smile on her face. "Oh, so
now Ranma wants girl's underwear. Next thing you know, she'll be
wandering around in a leather corset."

As Ranma-chan tried to bury herself deeper into a hiding place
that didn't exist, Akane and Nodoka both were giving angry looks
at Nabiki.

Kasumi put her hand on her sister's shoulder. "Nabiki, it's
obvious that Ranma is not comfortable with your teasing. She
wants our help, not your attitude."

Nabiki sat there. Her eyes closed and she spoke. "Your right
neesan. Ranma usually gets mad when I tease him, and it's
funny."

Akane added. "If Ranma had been a girl all her life, we would be
proud that she asked for our help, like when each of us started
to develop. Ranma is just as much your sister as I am, why is it
alright to tease her?"

After a long pause where everyone just stared at each other,
Nodoka finally broke the stillness.

"Ranma, Ranko, lets go for a little shopping trip."

Kasumi and Akane asked to join them, but Nabiki decided to stay
behind. "I don't need to go, my mouth will probably just get me
in trouble. Besides, I am going to stay here with Shampoo and
watch Television."

Ranko pondered a question. "Nabs, if you like girls, why did you
run from her when she was a girl, but you pet her as a cat?"

Nabiki replied. "Simple. I'm not a martial artist and I don't
want to get tangled up in Amazon laws. I want to be a
successful businesswoman, not a housewife in a remote village."

"If it was just Shampoo, I might have been interested. I just
don't want Moose attacking me, or go through all the crap Cologne
has put Ranma through."

They all waved goodbye as they walked out the door, leaving
Nabiki and Neko-Shampoo all alone.

Said cat had not been asleep and so had heard every word.

Nabiki picked Shampoo off her lap, cradling her in her arms.
"You need to take a bath, Shampoo. Then we'll get something to
eat."

Nabiki carried said cat off to the furo. As she closed the door
behind her, she outwardly mused: "Oh, I forgot I need to take
one too."

*****************************************************************

When Nodoka and her four giggling companions returned, they found
a human Shampoo sitting on the floor, while Nabiki sat behind her
brushing her long violet hair.

Both were wearing a pair of Ranma's boxer shorts and one of his
silk shirts. It was obvious by the open ties on each shirt that
they were wearing little else.

Nabiki smiled as they entered. "Welcome back everyone."

Shampoo tried to wave but she seemed to be unable to speak or
make hand motions. She was relaxed almost to sleep.

As Nabiki watched, Akane, Ranma-chan and Ranko came in carrying
several large bags of clothes.

After the bags were dropped in a corner, Nabiki noticed that one
of the redheads was wearing a long, blue, short-sleeved sweater
dress. A wide belt accented her waist. Due to the size and
tight fit, Nabiki recognized the signs of high cut panties and a
bra.

The other redhead was wearing a pair of loose fitting denim jeans
and a long sleeved shirt. A man's button down, short sleeved
shirt hung open off her shoulders. She noticed a bra strap peek
out from the collar as she turned.

Nabiki started to laugh. "Nice look Ranma. The jeans go nice
with your hair."

At which point Ranma-chan, in the sweater dress, cleared her
throat. "Um, Nabiki... I'm over here."

Nabiki barely saw her world fade to black.

"Told ya she'd think you were me." Grinned Ranma.

*****************************************************************

The table was now as packed as it had once been, this time it was
shoulder-to-shoulder females, instead of a wailing man and a
giant furry panda.

Shampoo was sitting next to Nabiki, while Akane sat between Ranko
and Ranma on the other side of the table.

Nodoka came out of the kitchen followed by Kasumi and dinner was
served and eaten with little comments, though everyone seemed in
a good mood.

Ranma-chan broke the silence with a stupid comment however. "Hey
Nabiki, Shampoo, can you two try not to get my shirts too dirty?
Those are the only clean ones I have for school tomorrow."

Akane elbowed her slightly. "Ranma, be nice. You can wear some
of your new clothes to school tomorrow."

Ranma shook her head. "No, those aren't for school. I plan to
go to school as a boy. I wanted something to wear around the
house when I feel like a girl. For spending time at home, not
where everyone can see me."

Nodoka ruffled Ranma-chan hair. "That's fine dear. I'm just
glad it makes you happy."

Ranma-chan nodded. "Yes, mom. Thanks for understanding. It
helps to know you're behind me."

*****************************************************************

That evening Shampoo found Ranma-chan sitting on a rock
overlooking the koi pond. She assumed a lotus position on a rock
across the water. The entire time Ranma-chan never moved.

Several minutes passed before Shampoo finally spoke. "As many
times as I have watched you sit out here and think, I still
wonder what you are thinking about."

Ranma-chan snapped out of her self-induced trance. "You've been
watching me?"

Shampoo snickered softly. "Ranma I have always been watching
you. I knew you were a curse victim after two days." She looked
at the stunned redhead and giggled. "What? You think all those
times when I showed up only seconds after you were splashed was
just coincidence?"

Ranma-chan asked. "If you knew, then why did you keep attacking
me and the Tendos?"

Shampoo dropped her head and her gaze went to the pond. "Because
I care about you Ranma. You went to live in a home where people
hated you because you were different. Akane hurt you, Nabiki
treated you like a commodity and your father was the worst of
them all."

"I wanted you to run home, run away, run somewhere other than
here. I heard your father and Soun discuss your mother and her
house. I wished you would go home. If I was your mother I never
would have let you be hurt like you were."

"I tried to make you run home. I would not have shown myself if
I had seen someone actually care for you."

"But you never ran away, you took the punishment and the abuse
and you never gave up. You were the strongest, toughest person
I ever saw, until I saw it with my own eyes."

Shampoo noticed the completely confused look upon Ranma-chan.
She sighed and continued.

"Those nights after Cologne hit you with the cat's tongue. I
watched you cry yourself to sleep many times when you thought no
one could hear you. You lived in a house full of people and yet
you were still all alone."

"I begged her to give you the pill, so much that she almost
struck me in anger. I told her she had no idea what pain she was
causing, but she didn't care. I was told to behave and be
silent. I wish that I could have taken it myself, but I never
got the chance."

"Please forgive me. I thought I could make your life better and
all I've done is make it worse."

Ranma-chan sat there, her eyes closed as she listened to
Shampoo's words. Finally her eyes opened. She had a sparkle in
her eye. "I only have one question." She said in a stern voice.

Shampoo readied herself for a massive verbal outburst. She
clenched her muscles and waited. If Ranma wished to take her
anger out in battle, she would not fight back.

After several seconds of waiting and not being blasted off her
rock, she opened one eye slowly to look at Ranma.

Said girl was staring at her with her head tilted to the side,
concern and questions was all that was readable upon her face.

"What's wrong Shampoo? You look tense. You constipated or
sumthin?"

Shampoo landed on the ground, her face impacting the moist grass
first.

She quickly regained her composure and sat up to face Ranma-chan
again. "You aren't going to yell at me?"

Ranma-chan giggled and shook her head. "No, I understand all
that. I should thank you for at least trying to help, though
maybe you could have just sat me down and told me all this a
little sooner, but now is better than never."

"What I really wanna know is how you were watching me so much and
I never noticed you?"

Shampoo grinned. "Figured your mind would latch onto just that
tiny little bit. Oh well, I suppose I could teach you the only
technique I learned without Cologne's help. Something I would
never pass on to anyone else in the village, including her."

Ranma was leaning forward. "Wow, really?" Her hands stabilized
her on the rock as she was leaning further over the pond.

Shampoo said. "Yes Ranma. For you I would. But not tonight. I
don't even think you could learn it in a single evening, though I
wouldn't put it past you."

Shampoo lifted one hand into the air, palm facing outward. "For
now, just a demonstration."

Ranma watched as Shampoo's hand seemed to dissolve into the wind,
her arm and the rest of her body followed suit and a second later
she vanished completely.

<Author's notes.>

Gawd, I love the ending. No, that wasn't the original ending but
as I continued writing this is just what happened. And I like
it.

I said before I have no plan for this story. I just write and
see where it takes me.

And Yes, Ukyo shows up in the next Chapter. We've only seen her
once in this fic and I agree that's not enough. She's had an
especially busy few weeks with homework and and the shop I
suspect.

Also see Ryoga, Taru, Colonge, Moose and Kuno coming soon. I am
going to tie up a loose end or two and create a few more.
