While I find the whole premice behind this fic to be sad,
I have to admit that it's funny, and I'm looking forward to it.

NODOKA: "In the name of the Moon, I will send you on
to your proper rest so my son can be restored to his own
body!"

CALLISTO: "Bwee!" Which, roughly translated, means:
'I don't know this person, honest!'

Subject: [FFML] [Ranma][Fic] Here's Ryoga!

Part of "World Without A Ranma"

This is on the small side, I'll tack it on to the end of 'Where's
Genma' when I get round to a RAAC posting. As such the title is a
'throwaway' one - although Ryoga _is_ introduced in this fic ^_^

[First paragraph overlaps with 'Where's Genma?']

What Came Before: Kimiko's secret (at least one of them) came out in
front of Nodoka Satome during a visit to Genma in the hospital.

Here's Ryoga!

Kimiko looked down at her, no - to be truthful, at this moment 'his'
body, hot tea staining her trousers. Three voices sounded out as one, "I
can explain!"

Nodoka's first action was, naturally, to retrieve her katana. Possibly
the world's sharpest security blanket. There was a pause, as Genma, Soun
and Kimiko silently vied for the 'privilege' of explaining first. The
nervous silence was soon broken - by Nodoka herself.

"You don't have to explain," Nodoka said.

  "We don't?" Genma blurted.

"It's perfectly obvious what has happened," Nodoka continued.

"It is?" Soun said - failing to keep the incredulous tone from his
voice.

"It it's way, it's very sweet," Nodoka said.

"Sweet!?" Kimiko managed - her voice turning to a squeak despite her
currently male body.

"Genma lied to me," Nodoka stated (the person in question turning even
whiter than he had been before). "But I can see that he did so to protect
Ranma. To sacrifice his life so that my Jusenkyo cursed son would not be
found 'unmanly'. I could still decide to hold them both to the contract,
but I think I have seen enough blood ... Perhaps it is enough that he is
a manly man while he _is_ a man."

Soun and Genma nodded enthusiastically, but Kimiko's much torn heart
ached within her. "Genma _was_ protecting me," she said, "but ..."

Kimiko paused as both Soun and Genma made frantic shushing motions to
her. Genma managing a creditable pantomime of seppuka - for someone who
couldn't sit up in bed.

"No, I'm living on false pretences with too many people already. The
truth is that Ranma _is_ dead and he _did_ die to save a life - mine.
I have not proved worthy of his sacrifice, but I know of no way it can be
reversed. This body is Ranma's but my soul is that of Kimiko Tendo."

"The shade of my old friend Kimiko - possessing my son's body? I cannot
allow this!" Nodoka shouted, drawing back her sword to strike - but
halting in the realisation that, as an instrument, the katana is not best
suited to separating spirit and body, at least not if you want the body
alive afterwards.

"Wait! It's not like ..." Kimiko started, but Nodoka had already rushed
out of the room.

"Well, that went better than I expected," Genma said, "Any chance of a
take away?"

...

Outside the hospital Nodoka pondered fiercely as she walked, the
unrestful shade of her old friend obviously had some sort of influence
over the other members of the household. It would be a pity if she had to
force her soul screaming into limbo - but if that was what it took she was
willing. The only trouble was that she was on her own - in a situation
where the family sword would be of little use. What she needed was
someone who knew of the spirit world, someone expert in magic and skilled
in conjuration.

Nodoka sighed, it wasn't as if she could just get some 'animal advisor'
and turn into a magical pretty girl / devil hunter or whatever.

...

Objectively speaking Kimiko's afternoon training session was going well.
Cologne had claimed business elsewhere and finished early, leaving Chan to
spar with her. There was something odd going on with the young man, not
that he'd made passes at her as such, but he had a very intense stare. He
seemed to look right through her as though seeking something not visible
to the normal eye.

"Why are you holding back?" Kimiko asked, this was only the second day's
training with her new sparring partner - but she knew enough to tell that
he wasn't performing at his best.

"It not fair to beat you when in weakness," Chan answered.

"I'm not ill, if that's what you mean." Kimiko answered.

"Cologne tell about Ranma," Chan said, looking a little shifty, "Much
powerful fighter - Kimi- You have same potential. Have proper fight
later."

"I'm glad you think so - but I don't know that I'll ever match up to
Ranma," Kimiko said, and watched in shock as Chan broke down in tears.
"Chan, what's wrong? What did I say?"

"Is not your fault. Chan ... lose someone very dear recently.
Something you say just remind me of him," the young blonde martial artist
said.

Him! Kimiko thought, that really wasn't very proper. Kimiko stiffened
as Chan sought comfort in her arms, then she tried to relax telling
herself that, proper or not, the poor man was obviously in pain.

"There, there," Kimiko said awkwardly, patting Chan on his back. "I'm
sure you'll be alright, maybe someday find another nice ... boy." At
least, she thought, the strange looks she'd been getting couldn't be for
the reason that first came to mind. Not that she minded that much, he'd
never tried to take advantage of her ... and he was quite comfortable in
her arms. What AM I thinking - he's just getting over his loss, he's
homo- ga-, he doesn't like girls and I'm a married woman!

*Sniff* Chan pulled back and stood up again. "Sorry, feel much good
now. Continue fight?"

At that moment the door to the dojo flew open revealing a figure in a
garishly coloured, rather short, school 'sailor suit' uniform.

"I'm sorry, Kimiko - this is for your own good," Nodoka said as she
threw something towards her old friend.

It never reached her - Chan was there with his bo stick and smashed the
packet before it could hit Kimiko. White powder flew everywhere, all
over the two helpless figures - and did absolutely nothing.

Well maybe not _absolutely_. "Ow! That stings!" Kimiko cried as some got
in her eyes.

"Salt?" Chan said - tasting a little.

Nodoka hadn't waited around when her first attack had failed. Outside,
and out of the way she considered what had happened. "OK, Callisto - why
didn't that work? No don't tell me, I didn't give a proper speech before
attacking*," Nodoka decided.

[* - Or just possibly because salt is supposed to be used on Zombies ]

"Bwee bwee bwee-ee!" Callisto agreed. Or, as Ryoga intended to be
understood - "Get me some hot water!" It had been a bad day for the newly
adopted magical animal advisor of 'Ghost Hunter Sailor Nodoka'. He wasn't
too keen on his new name either.

Author's Notes

Just to note that 'Callisto' is yet another goddess associated with the
moon so I'm staying in the Luna / Artemis / Diana tradition. ^_^

The reader may speculate that Nodoka has watched too much anime while
Genma has been away o_O;;
