"Kasumi," Ranma asks tenderly, "did you ever wish that we could have a
chance?"
"Yes, I did," Kasumi replies, "especially after all of the problems you
and I went through."
That night, when Ranma and Kasumi were asleep, a disembodied voice says,
"Wish granted."
Why? Are they unhappy now? What's the problem, that they would regret how
thier lives turned out and wish for a second chance because of it? Unless
you show this, the entire concept of starting over is flawed and makes the
story a rather moot point. They're international heroes, they're going to
live a long time (well, assuming this isn't at the end of their life span,
anyway), and being the prestigious doctors that they are, they should be
able to figure out a way to increase the odds of thier having children, so
that's ruled out as a reason for wanting to start over as well... So, what
is the point? Unless you can demonstrate a reason for this then it isn't
believable that they would want to start over. To the contrary, they have
every reason to NOT want to go through that hell again. Ranma's actions
with his rivals and fiancees demonstrates rather conclusively that he
doesn't regret in any major way what happened to any of them, we have no
evidence to suggest Kasumi is unhappy with something about the way her life
turned out...
You need to answer this question before the story can go further without
throwing any chance of it being taken seriously right out the window.
One thing that could work is to have Tofu's abuse of Kasumi result in her
being infertile. However, the problem with this is that it seems unlikely
that they wouldn't be able to come up with an alternative method of having
children. I would expect by now that cloning methods are available, in
vitrio (whatever it's called, I'm sure you know the concept) fertilization
is possible... Right now it is possible, or at least I'm pretty sure it is
from the few times I've watched the discovery channel and things like it, to
produce body parts that are compatible with humans by breeding pigs in
special ways. There are other, similar things happening which make it hard
to believe that Kasumi's being infertile would be an insurmountable problem,
however, so this might not be a very good solution to the problem of why
they would want to go back in time and start over, just to go through all
the same crap again. If nothing else, Ranma's sperm could be implanted in
his cursed form's eggs or something of that nature, birth defects through
incest aren't, AFAIK, a problem until it's been going on for several
generations, and even with both gene sources being Ranma it's unlikely to be
a problem since he is a rather prime specimen of each sex, so unhealthy
recessive traits coming out in the child probably wouldn't happen. Birth
defects are also something that could be expected to be correctable by this
stage, anyway...
Anyway, I've rambled on enough, I think. You really need to come up with a
believable answer to this, though, otherwise the story doesn't work, IMO.
