I just wanted to comment on one of the main stays of
Ranma 1/2 fan fiction.

I'd be interested to hear what other people think (otherwise
why would I post this in the first place?) but,

as I do not want to propagate some horrible, out of
control, flame thread.

[NB. I know I'm pushing this a little - first offense?

It seems that a large proportion of Ranma fan-fics
authors (possibly even the majority) are dubious about
the imediate, and long term, prospects of Ranma /
Akane.

Why is this?  Well it's (IMO) pretty obvious.  People
look at the manga, and perhaps more importantly, other
fanfics and say to themselves 'They insult each other,
she hits him all the time and she never trusts him.'
Then you can look at the other prospects and say
'Shampoo's energetic, cheerful and stacked, Ukyo's cute
and friendly, Kasumi would make a perfect wife, Kodachi
is ...' [On second thoughts, let's not go there.]

It's a small step from there to think things like 'If
_I_ was Ranma I'd be going out with X' and 'Why doesn't
Ranma realise Akane isn't right for him?'.

It's just common sense - right?

Well, folks, I think two things that have very little
to do with common sense are
1. Ranma 1/2
2. Love

I have nothing against 'Ranma + [someone else]' fics,
heck I'll probably write one myself if I keep going
long enough.  But I do think that in the 'manga world'
Ranma and Akane are in love with each other and
probably have no worse (if not necessarily much better)
chances of 'happily ever after' than any other match
up.

NOTE: If I receive indications that comments on this
matter are of real interest I may post 1 [one] summary
post to the FFML.
