Well of COURSE I'm wrong. ^_^ That was the point of my
little essay. (people taking my C&C too seriously._

Seriously . . .I wasn't trying to bash Dragonball Z.
I watch it myself. However In My Opinion (and it's
only MY opinion, as I pointed out in the essay) there
is NO character development in DBZ (the american dub)

If _you_ think there is character development, that's
part of what my essay was about. EVERY reader has
their own opinion, and mine is no better than another.

I used DBZ because _IMO_ it's a series that depends
more upon basic plot elements (action in this case)
than upon character development or even well developed
characters. In MY opinion it's possible to unplug a
DBZ character and replace him (or especially her) with
almost any character from a similar (to my mind) anime
such as Street Fighter.

HOWEVER---- this actually points out an important
point I was trying to make in my essay. Readers take
C&C (or at least my C&C) too seriously. For example,
this particular comment about DBZ is simply my
opinion, based on my knowledge and my bias toward and
against certain styles of writing.

IF, after reading my C&C, the author (or another
reader) disagrees that's fine. C&C is a TOOL, not an
end unto itself.

IF you (as author or reader) find something useful in
what I say, that's great. If you (as author or reader)
can use DBZ as an example of wonderful
characterization . . .that's great as well. Your C&C
will be useful in a way mine will not and for
writers/readers that find my C&C useless.

If you disagree with C&C, just hit the delete button.

I may be wrong about DBZ It's possible I've missed
something. I don't like Stephen King, Piers Anthony
and many other popular and established authors.
(sometimes I don't like them when I'm in one mood, and
like them when in another mood.)

I try to give sufficient information about myself so
that my C&C is not given in a vacuum. If an author
knows the kinds of things I write or like to read,
they are better able to judge how helpful my C&C will
be TO THEM!

In this case, knowing that I feel that DBZ is not an
example of well developed characters, the author of a
DBZ story may feel that my C&C is less than useful.

Again, one of my points is that C&C is so individual
in nature that the author must use a degree of
judgment to interpret the C&C and extract what, if
any, information and advice is useful to The Author at
that moment.

I watch DB (I prefer the manga with little Goku) but
it's slapstick NOT high drama. I think there's about
as much characterization as a tossed salad. I like the
Three Stooges as well (and for the about the same
reason) Not much characterization there either . . .In
MY opinion.

I hope this clarifies things. Thanks for reading my
essay and taking the time to write.

I'm sorry if anyone got the idea that I was "bashing"
a particular series or character. Just the opposite in
fact. IF anyone evever feels I've "bashed" a character
or series, it's entirely by mistake. I have a great
deal of respect for all authors, even those whose
stories I may not like. As I said, I only C&C stories
I like. (And I like DBZ, just not for it's
characterization. But, again, that's MY opinion)

I'm leaving for AnimeFEST now (I'm driving) and
setting FFML to [vacation]. If someone writes and gets
no reply, that's the reason. Feel free to write after
next Wed. ^_^

I'm sorry, you're wrong.

And there's not even any *need* for this. It's not
as if your essay
fundamentally depends on being able to bash
Dragonball Z. You're writing
about something else, and then suddenly throwing in
a potshot at a series
you probably have seen little of, but which it's the
current fad to bash.
It's like writing an essay about Miyazaki and
casually tossing in a "unlike
Star Trek, a show made for weenies".
