It might have been a more dramatic moment, had Ranma not been rolling
on the floor laughing, causing Nabiki no end of sweatdrops.

"No way," Ranma replied when he finally recovered.  "No *way* can this
be for real."

"Oh, it is.  It was one of Gos's first few spells.  I, ahh...'borrowed'
some magic block to make sure he doesn't ever get that successful
again."

"From in there, right?"  Ranma gestured to the two-meter-wide spinning
grayish disk that had disgorged Nabiki right in front of him.

"Well, one of the realities in there.  Lina's even more of a mercenary
than I am."

"And you say you also got this product from in these?"

Nabiki nodded.  "Ikari senior" - *not* a good idea to call him by his
given name in front of Ranma, she thought - "was quite willing to part
with the formula, once I convinced him of how I managed to materialize
in the middle of his headquarters.  It was his own invention, but he's
got greater plans for mankind in his realm.  Giving the formula, and
the machines for making it, to me was the only way he could affect
anyone else; as it was, his daughter was the only person he knew who
used it."

"But it's popular everywhere else."

"Oh, yeah.  Works everywhere, too, at least so far as I've tested.  It
introduces a very short-lived virus into the human body, rewriting DNA
everywhere then dying before it can either be blocked by the immune
system or infect someone else.  The end result takes about a week after
that to show up, depending on the subject.  He had to write them from
scratch, but the genes don't seem that different from natural ones; I
bet they'd be a good match to Shampoo."

"Or maybe, sometime in the future, you tinkered with your portal device
to send yourself into the past."

"Hmm...I hadn't considered that.  Thanks, Ranma."

Ranma blinked.  Had he just given her a new market for her eye and hair
'Perma-dye'?  And had she been serious about test marketing the skin
coloration to the Robo-something Masters?
