Info: This is my first fanfic. It is a crossover between Neon Genesis
Evangelion and Dual: Parallel Trouble Adventures. I have seen all 26 eps of
Eva, but not the movies, and I have only seen 8 eps of Dual, so please
forgive
me if I detract from continuity, but isn't that the purpose of a x-over?

Angel's Rift
Chapter 1
Cloud Shadows
Shinji sat, as a golem sits above a castle, staring down at Tokyo-3. His
eyes, so lost in thought, didn't see Rei approaching. "The city seems quite
peaceful since the Angels have stopped coming." Rei's words startled Shinji.
"Yeah, you'd almost forget that there had ever been any fighting at all."
Shinji lay back on the cool grass of the hill above Tokyo-3 and looked into
the sky as the clouds cast their shadows across the city and the hill where
Shinji and Rei were. The clouds seemed to shift and move like dancers on the
wind. The shifting shapes caused the shadows to gently play over Rei^�s
features. Rei smiled.
Shinji^�s thoughts drifted away from the moment. Rei and him had been
through a lot in the past six months. His father had been training Rei and
Shinji in maneuvers in case another Angel was to attack. Everything had been
going fine in training, until Unit 00 started malfunctioning. When they
finally were able to eject the entry plug, it was already too late. Rei^�s
fragile body was unable to handle the stress. Her body died again that day.
His father rebuilt Rei again, as he always did. This was the fourth Rei
Ayanami. Shinji found her to be very warm, and motherly, much unlike he had
ever seen Rei before.
The peacefulness of the moment was shattered when a gigantic red robot
suddenly eclipsed the sky and the clouds. Startled, Shinji quickly scrambled
away from where he had been laying. "What the hell does Asuka think she's
doing?" shouted Shinji.
Rei sat there, pondering what Shinji was doing. One moment he was looking up
at the clouds, the next, he was backing away screaming something about
Asuka.
^�Shinji?^� Rei drew his attention away from whatever he had been so
startled by.
^�Rei, aren^�t you wondering why Asuka has Unit 02 out?^� Shinji asked.
Rei looked around, ^�I do not see Unit 02 or Auska anywhere, Shinji.^�
Shinji pointed right above where they were, ^�She^�s right th^�^� The
robot was no longer where he was pointing. In fact, it was nowhere to be
found. It had vanished. ^�Wha^�?^� Shinji was speechless.
^�Are you okay, Shinji?^� Rei^�s concern broke Shinji away from his
astonishment for a moment. ^�How could it be here one moment and gone the
next?^� Shinji thought.
^�Shinji,^� Rei repeated, ^�Are you okay?^�
Slowly, Shinji composed himself. ^�I think so, but I could have sworn I saw
Unit 02 standing right above us.^�
^�Shinji,^� Rei responded, ^�Asuka and Unit 02 are both back at NERV
Headquarters. Commander Ikari, your father, has requested a meeting. The
commander is concerned that there might be signs of another Angel. The Magi
have been recording strange anomalies. He^�s pulling the Evas out of
hibernation. All of the Eva pilots are required to be there. Please, we are
needed.^�
Shinji cautiously rose. He and Rei both started walking down the hill
towards the NERV entrance. Shinji shot a glance back over his shoulder,
still
trying to figure out what exactly it was that he saw.

^�Commander Ikari,^� interjected Ritsuko, ^�Just because the Magi are
reporting these anomalies doesn^�t mean there is another Angel. I really
don^�t think this warrants pulling all three units out of hibernation. We
still don^�t know how stable Units 00 and 01 are after the incident.^�
The conference room was scattered with the main players. At the head of the
table sat Gendo Ikari, sternly facing Ritsuko Akagi. Behind Gendo stood
Kousou Fuyutsuki. Rei, Asuka, and Shinji sat on one side of the table while
Misato and Ritsuko sat across from them. Misato was in the process of
ducking
away from the line of sight between Ritsuko and Commander Ikari, desperately
trying not to become a target in this battle. Asuka squirmed in her chair.
^�How come the commander always gets the big chair?^� she asked herself.
^�Is it possible the Magi could be malfunctioning and giving us false
data?^� asked Kousou.
^�I just don^�t see how it^�s possible,^� Ritsuko responded, ^�All three
systems operate independently, yet, they are all recording the same data,
the
same anomalies.^�
Gendo leaned back in his chair, quietly judging the situation. Suddenly, the
conference room was flooded with alarms. ^�What is going on?^� demanded
Gendo.
A message screen beeped on with a very frightened Maya Ibuki, ^�S^�
Sir^�^� she stammered.
^�What is it? Another Angel?^� Gendo questioned.
^�N..No Sir,^� Maya replied, ^�It^�s the Magi sir, Balthazar is gone.^�
^�Gone? What do you mean gone?^� Ritsuko demanded, ^�Has the system
failed?^�
^�No ma^�am,^� Maya replied, ^�The other two Magi are working fine,
it^�s
just that Balthazar is gone. It^�s like it was never here at all, the whole
system is gone, wires, processors, memory, everything is gone.^�
^�That^�s impossible! The Magi shouldn^�t even be able to operate without
Balthazar!^� Ritsuko exclaimed.
^�What the hell is going on?^� snapped Gendo, ^�How could it just be
^�gone^�?^�
^�There is something very strange going on here,^� commented Rei, ^�I can
feel it, it is very strong.^�
