I have this habit of getting my mail only after three or four days. Nowadays it's been a
week since my eye started going nuts. Big red eyeballs with only red and black without
the white is not exactly a healthy eye.
Anyway, for one thing as I ran over some of the mail, I've had one of my theories confirmed.
The FFML has reached critical mass.
Critical mass has a conventional meaning in nuclear parlance, but this one I'm talking about
is in sociological terms, or at least, fringe sociology. Imagine Hari Seldon's pscyhohistory in
RL terms. A few socio friends of mine worked out a bunch of theories...
Anyway, according to them, every large group of living beings from rats to humans will eventually
reach a stage of critical mass, when the population has grown to a very dangerous level.
Once critical mass is attained, a series of crises will begin. Starting from small ripples, which
I've started observing on the FFML ...oh ... about a a year back, slowly progressing into several
other, and much larger and also potentially more catastrophic crises. The rat experiment ended
up with a severe decline in population, through death and sundry other things. Heh. I've been
observing two other social experiments, the first along with a anime fan/sociologist at the State
University on the effect of the sudden ballooning of the anime enthusiasts population of the
Philippines and the effect on the fans' attitudes and the fan society as a whole. Damn good thesis
material. Of course, going the totally unethical approach. The other is the world scene, but
everyone knows about that.
Well, expect to see more of this week's stupidity and firebreathing in the near future if something
doesn't come up that rattles the entire FFML community. Oh, like the arrival of the Messiah or
the end of the Age. Yeah, let's start a Bore to the Dark One now!!! ^_^
Solutions?
As Usagi Tsukino's teacher in my fic "The Education of Usagi Tsukino" puts it, the fastest way to
world peace is to kill every living human being. Fascinating how Neo-Queen Serenity applies
that thought, but that's another story.
But, it's true. A pre-emptive strike by White Wolf/Cherry Tiger and -WHAM- no more FFML. No more
problems with crappy fanfics, idiotic newbies and crotchety elitists. A cheery thought. ^_^
But I doubt anyone wants that.
There are no solutions. The only way through "Critical Mass" is to weather it and for the society and
the dynamics and the laws that govern it to adapt. Good news about this is if the FFML survives
this, it will most likely be stronger and much better adapted to the larger audience. But before that
a lot of bad shit will go down.
Me? I'm going the Foundation route. See you at Terminus.
Yours in love and in hate,
Elsa Bibat
BTW, let us not forget that this is for private replies. For sociological enquiries, look for it yourself, you
slacker!!! ^_^
