Hi, can anyone out there provide a little info
I'm lacking in order to write a fanfic (Fate of
Love, and Mage, Scolar and Martial Artist).
I'm trying to collect all the English translations
of the Japanese names of the Senshi of the Sailor
Moon series. Eg. Tomoe Hotaru means 'Earth Firefly'.
Hotaru's name is very difficult. Hotaru means firefly, but Tomoe is a
combination of two kanjis composed of Earth and crumble[death, distruction,
can be alternates].
This becomes a case of symbolism and I have had debates on what it could mean.
My take is Eternal distruction, or I like to use Silence. Firefly of
Silence. There are many other alternatives that can be explored from the
combination of Earth/dirt and Crumble/distruction.
Meiou Setsuna is probably the most funny and obvious pun next to our
little rabbit.
Meiou is short for Meiou-sei for Pluto or planet pluto if you add the
proper sei.
Setsuna means transendant or a strong enough emotion that goes beyond.
[Pun ne?]
Mamoru means protect. Chiba I have a feeling is Chibaken or the perfect
Tokyo or city.
I will fill in the others, but I'm a little short on time right now
Tsukino Usagi means 'Moon Rabbit.' Tsukino means Moon
and Usagi means Rabbit. Chibi-Usa means Little Rabbit.
Not sure about the rest.
Mamoru Chiba
Mizuno Ami
Hino Rei
Kino Makoto
Aino Minako
Tomoe Hotaru
Meiou Setsuna
Tenou Haruka
? Michiru(can't remember)
(Do you notice a pattern with the names?)
