  It's evil to dangle a carrot in front of a donkey (or was it a mule, or a horse?), you know.

You know, though, I'm wondering: why would Rei suddenly decide to ... unleash ... something within her?  Okay, that sounded obvious, but I meant it this way, with these things in mind being the key elements of the puzzle:
  - Okay, Rei (DAGON, right? or am I utterly confused) has a psychotic side to her.
  - Gendo pulled Rei away from herself a chapter or two ago to "stablilize" her, making her "normal" again, which may have countered any effects that lead Rei to not kill Asuka that evening Asuka ran out from the apartment (thing with Kaji).
  - okay, the big kicker: if Rei lost everything she had before, she probably would have lost any emotions she had towards our lucky man (sort of) Shinji, thus, why would she want to decapitate/mutilate/incinerate (or whatever other things our mysterious Rei can do) Asuka?  A little scenario arose in my mind, very different from what was implied from the teaser.  First of all, it was never clearly stated that Rei actually harmed unit-02 or had any intention of harming Asuka.  I won't say what my thought it, since it sounds too stupid to myself for me to state.

But then, I could be completely off the ball.  After all, Rei did save Shinji last chapter if memory serves (maybe some emotion stayed intact? or was it just for the benefit of the impromptu mission?), and Rei did "walk calmly" towards Asuka's plug.  And what were those "several incidents" that were mentioned?

Great, now I am becoming psycotic myself.  See what happens when you make someone wait too long?

Evil, I say.  Just plain evil.  I guess that's why you guys called this a "teaser."  Maybe I should go back and reread the story to pacify myself and make sure I have everything right.  I used to think I somewhat understood what DAGON was, but now, it's been too long, and too many fics have passed my way for me to wade through them cleanly.

- Jon, who wants to get out of work and go home to the nice surprise of seeing the full version of chapter 18 (*cough* hint hint, *wink* *wink*).
