Woo Hoo! A Macross 7 fic - and one that doesn't have Basara in it so
far. Looks like a good start.....

I know you said later on that you're ignoring Dynamite, but I feel
that I should point out that they are way the heck out on the
frontier, and that it took them a *long* time to get there. Hence, in
Dynamite, they were actually building the new ship themselves.
Otherwise, you might want to say something along the lines of "They
sent a new ship out by fold" or something like that.
and there was apparently a joke going around beneath decks that by the
time Max lost his hair, he'd be captaining Battle 7D. Max had /not/ been
amused.
"Ready for fold operation, Captain." Sally reported
Max gestured, pointing forward with two fingers. "Engage."
Elsewhere in the multiverse, Picard sneezed.

"Captain, we seem to be receiving a transmission from UEG
Colonization Ship Megaload-1, Captain Misa Ichijyo commanding."
Most people put the hook near the beginning.... but this works.
Rather well. I was wondering what was going to happen.... have to
admit I wasn't expecting that. However, I'm really surprised that no
one has picked up this idea before now. I thought about a similar
idea for a while, but I didn't feel that my feeble writing skills
would be up to the task.
Also, as a purely personal observation, "Megaload" looks rather
strange. I realize it's correct, romanization-wise, but I think that
something like "Megaroad" (the way I've seen it written most often)
would sound better here.
I'm ignoring Macross 7 Dynamite. Basically, I haven't seen it (<Yeah, like
you've seen the entirety of Macross 7,> interjected his artistic
conscience.) and from what I've read it seems to be a very downbeat
follow-up to the very upbeat conclusion of the TV series.
I don't know about downbeat, but it focuses almost entirely on
Basara, with only brief interludes of the other characters (I don't
even think Max and Millia show up at all). For that reason alone I
don't really like it. I realize that Basara is the main character,
but I feel Macross7 is at it's best when it operates as more of an
ensemble piece.
Your best bet would be to announce in the beginning that this fic
will diverge from the Macross7 storyline, thus avoiding the Dynamite
7 problem altogether. It's not like people haven't done it before
with other shows ^_^
Suggestions for a better title are very welcome. :)
Kinda hard since I can't really tell where this is going so far. But
it's definitely off to a most interesting start. More, dammit, more!
