If anyone calls this pointless, I'll rip them apart. It may be spam, but it
aint pointless.
I'd like to point out a scientific mistake I've seen many, many times over.
DNA is a set of instructions for how the body develops. If it's already
developed, changing it won't result in more than a person with the wrong
sex
chromosomes and maybe some hormone problems. Someone whose genes were
changed
to the opposite sex won't become the opposite sex, for the same reason that
if you lose a leg you won't grow another one even though your DNA codes for
having two legs.
Mr. Arromdee seems to be thinking about your common-or-garden virus.
I put it to this mailing list that this could be a RETROVIRUS.
The distinction is a small one but a major one.
A standard virus will contain DNA in a protein coat (the capsid, made of
capsomeres). A retrovirus, however, contains RNA. And I will explain this
for all you non-biotechnicians out there:
RNA is what DNA is translated into within the cell. RNA normally comes in
three forms: tRNA (transcription), mRNA (messenger), and rRNA (ribosomal).
Now for the techie bit...
DNA is read by a ribosome (mainly composed of rRNA) and produces mRNA. (The
difference between DNA and RNA is deoxyribosenucleic acid and ribosenucleic
acid, and the fact that the T in DNA is substituted for a U.) mRNA will then
be read by another ribosome and will produce a protein.
Where does this leave our viruses?
Well, mRNA (or, possibly, vRNA [v for viral], in this case) is immediately
read by the ribosomes floating about in the cell. It is also noticeable that
retroviruses (in particular, the HIV virus) can target specific cells- like
the T-cells in the HIV virus.
It is not such a great leap of imagination to see a retrovirus the writes
its DNA/RNA into a host cell.
So:
1) Mihoshi causes havoc with one of Washuu's experiments, and creates a
super-retrovirus.
2) Said retrovirus is bizarrely brought into contact with the Juraian
Adenovirus.
3) Said unlikely virus comes into contact with the Jusenkyo 'virus', mutates
again, producing:
4) Some bizarre hybrid virus that contains a REALLY screwed up mixture of
DNA and RNA; infecting cells, writing in its own DNA, producing and
exporting new virions (virus particles) rather than letting the weight of
numbers burst the cell-
and, just to add insult to injury, also is airborne.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you:
Retrovirium Mihoshia malfortunatus
==================================
(Or, Mihoshi's Bad Luck).
And Washuu was very put out that she didn't get to name it, or have her name
latinised, until I pointed out that maybe she wouldn't want to be known as
the person who put the whole world into chaos for two years.
Thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen.
