Not much to say, but what the hey? I might as well let people know
I'm still alive... ^_-

Thursday
----------
Drove up to Fanime con in my newly purchased, slightly dented car.
Some idiot ran a stop sign and ran into me as I was pulling out of a
parking space. Oh well. Got there around noonish, but...whaddya
mean nothing's happening until 4 PM!?

Grumbled until 4 PM. Freaked out a couple of people who didn't
realize that that low-pitched rumbling wasn't an earthquake. @.@
Stopped by the video rooms...which didn't have schedules posted yet?
*sighs* Found a group of people who were getting the room set up to
do role playing games instead, and played a session of Big Eyes,
Small Mouth. 'Twas enjoyable to play a character that had a heavily
modified remote control, and an ability to shrink to 1/10th normal
size. Sound familiar, for those of you who know me from #fanfic on
bachman.newberry.edu or from Kawaii MUCK? ;-)

Wandered over to the Art Display room, which had some good artwork.
There was an adorable little piece with a Super-Deformed Priss, with
a minimum bid of $18. Wrote my name down...but then forgot to show
up for the bidding. ;_; (I was watching the Tylor movie at the
time.)

Crashed around 10 PM... *wham*

Friday
----------
Found out that Fanime Con was severely lacking in help this year. So
_that's_ why things were a little bumpy on the first day. Okay, no
prob... The video room schedules were posted this morning, starting
at 6 AM. Cool stuff, including Outlaw Star (my personal favorite!),
Lost Universe, Blue Submarine #6, Detective Boy Conan, Video Girl Ai,
Nadesico, the (fansubbed) Irresponsible Captain Tylor movie, and the
Nadesico movie. Kudos to the Tylor movie for leaving us hanging, but
with a pleasant "aftertaste," like the series did. :-) (And if you
haven't seen the series yet, SEE IT!!)

Stopped by the dealer's room, which was HUGE. Wow, this con has
really grown since Foothill college! Scouted out a couple of good
deals, but waited until Sunday to actually buy something.

Drove back home to Monterey around 6 PM or so. Okay, so I wanted to
sleep in my own bed that night, and cheap out on the $99 a night
hotel room. :-)

Saturday
----------
Went to church. (You probably don't want to ask.) Got back to the
con around 5:30 PM or so, having missed most of the "good stuff"
during the day. (I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED THE GEKIGANGER OVA!! The
Gekiganger outtakes in Nadesico were, like, so cool... ;-)

Briefly considered pondering allowing the thought of going to the
Masquerade to cross my mind. Then thought, "Are you _nuts_? How
long will you have to stand in line? Will you even get any good
photos?" Killed that idea and watched some Lost Universe episodes
instead, then hung around and played wierd card games like "Chez
Geek" (pronounced "Shay Geek"). The players are supposedly all
roommates with different jobs, whose goal it is to slack off. You
earn "slack points" for such things as buying and listening to CDs,
or getting nookie. o.o It was kinda fun...kept me up 'til 1 AM,
even. :-) Too bad I couldn't find a room party, though. I brought
my homemade tangerine brandy cordial this year. (Yes, it's an
alcoholic fruit drink, around 60 proof. And yes, I bring a cordial
to just about every con. ^_^)

Sunday
----------
Watched a couple of Captain Tylor OVAs. Not all that great, but
worth seeing, although maybe not shelling out $$ to a fansub group to
send to you. :-) Then went to IHOP and spent 45 minutes waiting to
get seated. Maybe Sunday morning is a bad morning to go out to
eat...you think? o.O

Got back JUST after noon. Went to the Mari Iijima (seiyuu for Lynn
Minmei of Macross [in]famy) concert, although I missed her first
song. Found out midway through the concert that my camera batteries
were dead! D'oh!

Went to the dealer's room and picked up the first two tapes of Outlaw
Star, and the third tape of Bubblegum Crisis 2040. Briefly, Outlaw
Star starts out with an Outlaw named Hilda being chased by some
Pirates doing some sort of Buddhist-Taoist chant to ward off her
return fire. (Yeah, but it gets wierder. Not quite as warped as
EVA, though. ;-) If you're wondering about the Outlaws/Pirates
terminology, trust me, it's a little complicated. Just watch the
anime to figure out what they're talking about. But in any case,
this Outlaw and the Pirates both seem to be after a "treasure" which
turns out to be a special ship. I don't want to say any more because
I'll spoil the storyline, but trust me, this is definitely worth
seeing if you like action and/or sci-fi. If you liked Nadesico or
Lost Universe and don't mind something that's just a _little_ more
serious, then this anime is for you.

Went to see the Tylor movie at 1:30, missing the art auction at 2:15.
Saw some people (not on the list) I'd met at Anime Expo '98, Anime
Fest '98, and Anime Expo '99. (Josh -- Lee says hi. Didn't see
anyone from Minna no Anime, tho...sorry.) Waved to Misa and Sapphire
on their way out. Did one more sweep looking for any other people I
knew, and said a couple more good-byes before heading out myself.

----------

Fanime con is pretty cool, as cons go, but Thursday just does _not_
work. Here's to Anime Expo 2000 -- Friday, June 30th to Monday, July
3rd! ^_^ Still, it's a good west coast FAN-SPONSORED con (as
opposed to Anime Expo), which means you get to see fansubs there.

Someone recently mentioned that he only had the first few tapes of
Lost Universe but couldn't get any more, since AD Vision had just
recently bought the rights, but hadn't set a release date yet. (In
other words, expect a wait of several months to a year for the first
tape from them.) For those of you who can't wait, contact Slow As
Hell Anime (not as bad as it sounds) at
http://www.generation.net/~azag/ . They've got up to episode 18, and
19-22 should be finished Real Soon Now.

On a side note, I'll be away for a week down in Florida. I've been
invited to my best friend's wedding (yay!) so I guess that means it's
time to unsub again. And I _do_ normally read my FFML mail more than
once a month, Zen...just not _much_ more.  ^^;;;
