I realized that this story line had been getting a bit confusing, so I
decided to include a brief summary in the preface to Chapter 13. It
turned out to be a bit longer than I expected, so I decided to post it
separately. It still omits a lot though.

Crossed Wires starts off with Nodoka visiting Ranko Tendo, Akane's
alleged cousin. Ranma in an effort to avoid his mother and keep Ryoga
away from Akane, claims that Ryoga is his boyfriend. Ryoga and Ranma
then end the feud between them after a private duel. Unfortunately,
Ranma's efforts to set Ryoga and Ukyo up together backfire, leaving Ukyo
convinced that Ranma is interested in Ryoga.

Nodoka learns of the effects of the Neko-ken on Ranma. She blames Soun
and decides to move in to ensure that Ranko is properly raised. Ryoga
is also invited to stay. Ryoga and Ranma meet Mikado Sanzenin, who
challenges Ryoga to a martial arts roller-blading match. Ranma and
Ryoga then team up to fight Happosai and actually manage to beat him.

Unaware that Ranma will be attending school as a girl, or that Ryoga
would be attending at all, Nabiki spreads rumors about the pair of them.
Feels slightly guilty over the results but makes lots of money. Ukyo
sneaks into Ranma's room in an effort to set him back on the straight
and narrow. Sadly, she mistakes Ryoga for Ranma who really isn't
supposed to be there but is anyway. The trio are discovered under
highly suspicious circumstances.

Ryoga and Ranma find out about the rumors about them. Ukyo publicly
kisses Ranma who is a girl at the time, starting a few new rumors.
Ranma's statement that he isn't a lesbian doesn't help. Later, Ukyo and
Shampoo become engaged under an obscure Amazon law. Neither of them are
very happy about it.

The day of Ryoga's duel with Mikado arrives and the students of Furinkan
turn out to watch. Mikado claims that the duel is for the love of the
"pig-tailed princess", but Ryoga wins anyway. Ranma and Akane fight
after the victory celebration and Ranma decides to sleep in his own
room, currently occupied by Ryoga. Nabiki finds out and takes some
compromising photos, but decides to keep them secret.

The Principal announces a school dance with a trip to China as the prize
for the most romantic couple. Ryoga and Ranma manage to win but so much
damage is caused to the school that the trip has to be canceled.

Ukyo and Shampoo decide that Ranma's behavior is the result of his
cursed forms influence. An effort to counter this using a magic powder
goes awry. Ranma is splashed with hot water and Ukyo is hit with the
powder. Nodoka discovers Ranma in a compromising position with Kasumi
and learns about the curse. After reviewing the evidence Nodoka decides
that Ranma has fulfilled the contract to be a man among men and that
there was nothing forbidding him form also being a woman among women.
End of Crossed Wires.

Mixed Signals starts with Cologne in China. Shampoo is working as a
temporary waitress for Ukyo and the two of them decide to check out a
new restaurant that's opened up in the area. Ranma thinks that the two
of them are going on a date and along with Ryoga decides to follow
them. Happosai shows up with a magic statue that he plans to use to
steal Ranma's body. The results? Ranma is in Ryoga's body, Ukyo is in
Ranma's and Ryoga is in Ukyo's.

People get used to their new bodies. P-chan makes an appearance and
Ryoga discovers he doesn't like it when the shoe is on the other foot.
Shampoo decides that as long as Ukyo's in Ranma's body she might as well
have a little fun.

Ryoga's life is complicated by Kuno's declaration that anyone who wants
to date Ukyo must defeat her in combat. Tsubasa returns as well. Ranma
believing that Shampoo isn't looking hard enough for a cure, decides to
break into the Nekohanten and steal the statue. He fails.

A girl named Kiyomi Matsumara shows up looking for Ranma. She seems to
want to kill Ranma, but he has no idea why. Ranma and Ryoga enlist
Tsubasa to steal the statue for them. Ryoga isn't happy about promising
to go on a date with Tsubasa. A letter arrives from China announcing
that Mousse has left the Amazon tribe and intends to challenge Ukyo for
Shampoo's hand.

Ukyo decides to hide out from Kiyomi in Ranma's female form. Tsubasa
manages to steal the statue, but Ranma can't use it to reverse the
switch. Meanwhile, Akane discovers the photos that Nabiki had taken of
Ranma and Ryoga. She decides that she needs to treat Ranma with more
care and understanding.

Ryoga's date with Tsubasa begins. It's interrupted by both Ukyo and
Kiyomi. Ryoga beats Kiyomi in a fight. Ranma talks to Kiyomi and
discovers she's mad at him for standing her up. Shampoo tries to track
Happosai, who she blames for the theft of the statue. Kinder, gentler
Akane continues.

Ranma becomes upset by Akane's behavior. Ukyo decides to defuse
Kiyomi's hostility and inadvertently promises to take her on a date.
Shampoo tells Ukyo that she's discovered the statue will only affect a
given person once a week. In return she learns that Ranma has the
statue. However, the week is already up, and Ranma accidentally
switches with Nabiki. Happosai and Mousse show up. Kiyomi gets stood
up again.

Ukyo and Ryoga switch bodies. Ryoga is now in Ranma's, Ranma is in
Nabiki's and Nabiki is in Ryoga's. Nabiki discovers Ryoga's curse. She
decides to blackmail both Ranma and Ryoga with it. Ranma claims to have
lycanthropy so he can avoid ruining Nabiki's grades.

Nabiki asks Kiyomi out on a date. Mousse issues his challenge to Ukyo.
Happosai discovers that the statue is hidden in Ucchan's and tries to
steal it. The statue is apparently destroyed in the resulting three way
battle.

Ranma, Ryoga and Shampoo start training Ukyo. Shampoo's efforts to
repair the statue fail and Akane finds out about the statue's
destruction. Nabiki leaves on her date with Kiyomi. Akane follows.

Nabiki's date with Kiyomi goes well. Kuno shows up trying to buy
pictures of Ukyo from Nabiki. Ranma persuades him to buy pictures of
Nabiki as well and uses that as an excuse to delay selling him
anything. Ukyo continues training and Cologne returns. Assorted hints
about what really happened to the statue.

Next, chapter 13 and the duel.
