Ohayou! Since I haven't been writing much because of my procurement of a
number of Anime tapes; I decided to tell everyone about them. Why?
because some of them are really cool, and some of them I wouldn't read a
fanfic about they suck so bad. I'd like to see some stuff written about
some of these, because I'm tired of Ranma1/2. Not that I'll stop writing
about it, but I'd like to see some fics about stuff other than that on
occasion. Something that isn't still in japan. [Like Ruroni Kenshin,
there are a lot of those, it's good and all; but I haven't even seen the
show yet and I already know everything that's going to happen. Sigh, one
of the hazards of fanfics I guess.
The opinions are basically for your averege fanfic author, If you have a
good idea run with it, or if you think you're good enough to take it on;
but be mindful of what you are writing, think for yourself.
Item number one: Magic Knight Rayearth [Vol. 1-4]
They stole the opening sequence to The Wandrers: El-Hazard; It's almost
exactly the same, but with Rayearth charaters instead. I kind of thought
it was pretty cool though, anyway. This is almost as saccarine filled as
Sailor Moon. If you've seen Escaflowne, then this is like Escaflowne
light. It's cute, almost too cute at times. [Mokona must die!]
Still the video game like premise sort of impressed me, One of the
characters even mentions that it's a lot like an RPG, which it is. The
story is pretty involving, but the voice actors failed to impress me. I
think the same girl who does Miyaka in Fushugi is one of the Magic
knights, ugh. Any way, if you like Sailor Moon you'll be impressed, if
you like Lodoss War, you'll want to beat it with a stick. Fanfic of this
would be easy, but also hated by many as it would be a self insertion.
Please don't.
Item number two!: The Slayers next. 2nd half.
Lina Inverse, Xellos, evil stuck up bad guys who get their asses kicked!
This is one of the best comedy series around, I must say that Xellos is
one of my all time favorite characters. He's just so damn cool. I've yet
to read a really good Slayers fic, somebody please write something
impressive, that isn't a cross over with Ranma.
Item number three: Variable Geo.
This is a really well drawn movie, the fights kick ass. Unfortunately it
suffers from total lack of plot, this whole movie is one big fan service
flick with cool fights. [An all female fighting tournament, where the
loser has to strip.] An excellent movie, that would make terrible
fanfics. Once again, watch this, but please don't write it. [A parody fic
involving Ranma 1/2 would be good though, all of the characters in this
movie are [or where] waitresses.
Item number four: Master of Mosquiton. [1-2]
This has as much potential as Ranma for fanfics, it's a funny series
with lots of good characters, as well as a good sized dark streak. Fans
of Bastard should note that the main character has a few simmilarities
with Dark Shnider, but he's not a carbon copy of him. It's got a really
fun premise and a good cast to go along with it.
Beware, the main female lead is one of the most annoying characters of
all time. Think Auska from Evangelion on speed. Not pretty, but funny
still.
I'd like to see a few aspiring authors get their hands on this one.
Item number five: Cowboy Beebop. [1-3]
This is cool, it's kind of an updated Dirty Pair with a male lead. The
stories are excellent and there is a bit of humor in it, its a futuristic
story of a bounty hunter who always seems to be down on his luck. He's
got some pretty impressive equipment and the CGI effects are barely
noticable. {I hate it when they stick out like a sore thumb.}
The thing about this one is that it's pretty low on physical gags, most
of the humor is in the dialouge, a lot of action though. You'd have to be
a pretty good writer to pull of a fic on this one.
If you think you can handle it this would make an excellent fanfic
subject, but not a good cross over fic.
Item number six: Martian Successor Nandesico
This show kicks ass, I love it. It's my new favorite. This was created
as a parody of the various giant robot shows that have plauged Japan over
the years. Guy Dagoji is hilarious, one of the best scenes in the first
tape involves the crew watching an old Giant Robot anime called Geki
Gengar. [One of them is obsessed with it.] Once I get some more of this
one I garentee you'll see something from me. A word of warning, this show
also has an annoying female lead, but that is one of the jokes as well.
It's kind of funny too, because we get to hear Shinji Ikari's voice doing
the exact same thing he did in Evangelion, playing the reluctant pilot.
[An intentional move by ADV I think, so they could get the most out of
the "I'm scared, I'm gonna run" attitude of the boy. I'd have to say he
probably had more fun with this one though. Finally a series where the
main cast aren't teenagers. [Even though it seems that way at times.]
Please write fan fiction for this one, it's too cool not to.
Well that's all for this installment, I hope to hear some opinions, but
I'd rather just see fanfics.
