Ranma 7.3
4:46 A.M.
Ranma's eyes snapped open a second before the first jolt hit.
The first pulse of the earthquake was violent enough to throw him
five feet from his futon. I've got to get to the doorway, Ranma
thought. He tried to walk but the shaking, rolling motion was so
strong that the most he could manage was a slow crawl to the doorway.
Through the window he saw a bright flash, then the city went dark.
Over the incessant rumbling of the ground he heard the sound of glass
breaking somewhere in the house and in the distance Ranma heard
people screaming.
Finally Ranma crawled into the doorway. Down the hall he saw
Kasumi already braced in her doorway. A second later he saw Akane
pull herself and P-Chan into view. Ranma felt a small bit of relief
at seeing her safe. There was no sign of Nabiki.
Then, just as suddenly as it had started, the rumbling, rolling
of the earthquake stopped. Ranma blinked in surprise. The earth
gave one last jolt, then all was quiet. Crickets returned and the
crying began.
