Kimono is something of a passion of mine, I try to find out as much as
possible about it when I have the time. Trying for accuracy in fan fiction
is an aspect of that. And you can figure out some interesting little
touches in the manga by the traditional clothing some characters wear.

There are also some great books out there, the foremost being _Kimono_ by
Liza Dalby. It's out of print, but a good university library should have
it in. Actually a lot of clothing authors dress their characters in is
totally wrong and it drives me just a little nuts. I was thinking about
writing a little reference piece, but the time constraint is there as
well. I suppose I'm picky about details and Japanese culture. Anyone want
to discuss the finer points of Ukashi Bori, the art of tattooing with
seashell powder to create designs only visable at times of distress or in
the furo? :D
