them with a cat like personality, and the only thing that doesn't change is
his emotional attachements. That's it.<<

I assumed that if Ranma was forced to spend enough time in the Nekoken, his
original personality would eventually bleed into the cat personality. Given
this postulate and a lot of time, Ranma's personality would become a merge
of the two, in or out of Nekoken. Note, it's not a cure of the Nekoken. It's
a cure of Ranma's fear of cats. You cannot truly be afraid of what you are.

Sounds like Genma's way of reasoning. The whole 'throw him into pit of
cats to get him over fear of cats' idea comes to mind.
There are two very effective cures of Phobias. Systematic
Desensatisation and Flooding. Systematic Desensatisation involves teaching the
victom of the Phobia to relax and then gradually expose them to stimuli that's
more and more stressful while they stay relaxed(In Ranma's case, start with a
ball of cat hair at 50 feet and work up) I don't recall the precise
statistics, but I'm prety sure they were close to 80% cure in an average of 20
sessions.
Flooding is more the cure Genma was trying to achieve, Expose the
Phobia sufferor to the stimulus and keep them exposed untill they calm down.
This I don't know the statistics on, though I do know that it's the prefered
treatment for obsessive compulsive behavior.
Just a few things I remember from Psychology 101.
