I do not claim to own this character and I don't
care if it seems OOC or not. It's my shot at the
Challenge and don't laugh. I SAID DON'T

Starlight, Star Bright
A Slayers Shortfic
By Murasakikaze
The night is so inviting and the stars are out tonight.
I've always loved the stars. The way their pristine lights
sparkle and guide me home, keep the night air at bay,
and chase away the clouds of my mind endear me to
them. Now I sit and watch my ancient companions;
waiting.
I feel so alone at night and yet so crowded with
memories and thoughts. I can barely remember the time
when I used to sit and watch new stars form, but then
again that _was_ eons ago. I am still searching the
skies and waiting. I know they will not forsake me.
I remember the high towers and the forests that used
to cover this small planet. The humans have changed
everything by building their cities and homes. Although
not always changing for the better.
Off in the distant skies I see what I have been waiting for.
It begins its descent off to my right and slowly dances
across the inky blackness. As it disappears off to my left,
I stand and dust my pants off. No, the stars have not
forsaken me. Now I must return to my duties to prevent
discovery. I grab my oaken staff and begin the walk down
the hill. Just before hitting the forest's edge, I turn and
look back. The shooting star is burned into my memory.
It is a fallen tear from my companions.
"No, you have not forsaken me," I whisper and brush the
purple hair out of my eyes before entering the woods.

"Lina...I'll show you the ends of the earth."
"Heh...no thanks."
"And I'll treat you to an all-you-can-handle buffet." Akio
smiled...seductively. "And I ask such a small price...let me
drive you there."
"Um...no."
"It's free..."
"This is...food...right?"
"The best kind."
"....well...."
