Why do you write fanfics anyway?
I answered this question on an OutsideTheLines discussion list
not long ago, but it can apply here...
Most of my reason for writing fan-fiction lies with the fact
that I have a creative mind. I got my start with American comic-
books and originally dreamed of being a comicbook artist. When
Japanese animation series and manga (comics) began to get trans-
lated and published in the States, my preferences switched to
them, and my storytelling and art styles shifted to that genre
as well.
Although I still write American superhero fan-fiction as a
way of expressing things which I think /should/ have been done
in popular American comicbooks, with anime and manga the feeling
is different. I tend not to see anything wrong with the stories
as they've already been told (at least in most of the best se-
ries), so I play it like a "What If?" or write stories which
could fit into the established continuity of the series. My
first anime fanfic was a Zeta Gundam short of the latter type.
In the end, fan-fiction is my way of vicariously living out
my childhood dream of being a comicbook writer/artist, even
though I still reserve time for pursuing that dream as an adult.
