Private e-mail is private e-mail. Period. Unless someone is being
unnecessarily abusive, to the point where you have a legitimate
complaint against them with their ISP, in general, if someone sends
you a private e-mail, it's not your place to post it anywhere you
feel like. That's a violation of netiquette, common courtesy, and
privacy.
I'm sorry Lurker, but you're wrong. First of all, this started over a
two line quote about putting Top Ten lists on the FFML, a relevant
topic for those who haven't been around since it's not in the FAQ.
Anywhere. Second of all, when you send someone a private e-mail,
you're involving them in a communication. If you don't want people to
know what you're saying, you need to be sure of who you're sending it
to. Vandall is a party in a two-way communication here, and he has
the right to use what you say in any manner he wishes. It's not a
violation of privacy to quote something you told him without any
qualifications, and something you sent to him with the intent of
correcting something he did.
Thirdly, this is the Fan Fiction Mailing List. Not the Internet
Privacy Mailing List. Not the General Nettiquette Mailing List. The
Fan Fiction Mailing List. Your latest rant has nothing to do with Fan
Fiction. It has only to do with your nitpicking a two line quote. As
most of your rants seem to do, this rant only served to create a rift
between list members in addition to creating unneccesary list
traffic. I am not Tybalt. I can't stop you from doing anything.
Fortunately, I can delete or ignore all e-mail you send me, all e-
mail that starts with the letters 'Re:' on this address, or ignore
every message I receive with the word 'Rant' in it. Not things I want
to do, but things I find I may have to do.
Vandall was simply providing a quote for a reference in his message,
most likely so that readers of the message might know he was speaking
on the topic earlier with somebody who maintained the FAQ. There is
no need to go off the handle because of it. Please keep your rants to
yourself, or try counting to ten. The list will be better off for it,
and so will my keyboard.
Thanks.
