WELCOME TO MACROSS CITY- CITY OF HEROES.

Hi there, how you doing? Oh? A tourist? First time in Macross city? Well,
welcome then! This is one of the finest places to visit in the world! It's
probably the only city in the world which has pretty much an equal number
of Asians and Americans living in it!

Oh, how rude of me, let me introduce myself, I'm Yusaku Godai, I live at
Maison Ikkoku, and it's in the Clock Hill area of the city. I study at the
Macross University.

A girlfriend?

 Me?

..

Well.

 I got

uh.

 Prospects..

Right! Prospects

Like the manager from my apartment house.

Hey! Stop looking at me like that! I really like her! In fact, I love her!

I fell in love with her the first time I saw her, when I moved here from
Tokyo for college, she's older than me though, and she's a widow and still
in love with her dead husband.

Heck it's been years now and I'm still in love with her! I just never had
the nerve to do anything about it.

Her name is Kyoko Otonashi, and she's really very nice and very sweet and
very cute and very generous and very..

Hey, waitaminute, why the heck am I telling you all of this?!?!?!

AHEM!

Enough about me! Lets talk about the city!

What's particularly great about this city are the heroes!

Oh? Did I forget to mention the Super-heroes? Well, any person who reads
the news should know that both Tokyo and Macross City have the largest
number of heroes, with Astro city and New York ranking close seconds. I
mean, Tokyo has the Sailor Senshi and Tuxedo Mask, but Macross has the Big
"S," Saiyanman, perhaps the most famous hero on earth, although from what I
hear, he's not even FROM earth.

Who else is in Macross? Hmm. Well, there's Gowcaizer, that new rookie
hero, he's one of the coolest looking heroes around!

Then there's the Guyver, if you saw the news last night.

Oh and there's Terry Bogard, the Southtown hero, although the guy always
says he isn't a hero He's a pretty nice guy, heck he's always in the teen
magazines along with his girlfriend Nabiki Tendo. He's probably the only
superhero without a fancy name and costume, although if you think about it,
that red jacket, cap and sneakers of his are pretty distinctive and pretty
much his "costume" already.

Oops! I have to go, I've got a class and I'm late! Nice talking to you!

-*-

Oh, hi, fancy meeting you again. You know what? That day I met you turned
out to be pretty eventful. Hell, it was actually downright scary!

You remember how I had to run off to class because I was late?

Well, I never made it to that class.

I took a shortcut through Hunter Park and didn't notice all the police
cars. I was running as fast as I could by Lake Gloval to try and make it
to my class on time before I was cut off by this weird high-pitched sound.

I turned around to look at what had made that noise.

And right there in front of me was the famous Southtown Hero, Terry Bogard,
along with another guy in a white gi. He was probably a hero too, judging
from his powers. They were both taking on this dark brawny guy, who was
dressed in black, although his chest was bare and he also had short red
hair. The guy looked very grim and I would later find out that he was
called Jamin.

At the time, I had no idea what the guy wanted, probably one of those
villains out to conquer the world again or something, you know how it is in
this city.

All I knew at that time was that Jamin was tearing the city apart. Of
course, I wasn't worried! The heroes of Macross city would take care of
him!

Or so I thought.

Someone up there( indicates the heavens) probably just had to prove me
wrong.

This Jamin guy was beating the crap out of the two heroes! And because of
that there were energy blasts going everywhere, one narrowly missing my
head by an inch! Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time.

I watched, dumbfounded as the trio fought with all the fury they had within
them, it was like watching alleycats brawl with each other. The fight was
so confused, chaotic, yet at the same time it seemed so graceful and fluid,
as if it were choreographed somehow.

Then all such thoughts left my head as the guy in white was struck to the
ground and landed hard without being able to roll with the blow. He was
probably in a lot of pain if the cracks in the pavement were any
indication. I heard Bogard shout out: "Ryu!"

With his ally Ryu, down on the ground, I guess it was Terry's turn, not
that he did any better. Terry was just thrown away, towards me, after
receiving several punches to the abdomen. He landed right in front of me,
in fact.

I was pretty shocked at all this, heck, I don't think that the realization
I could get killed any minute ever crossed my mind!

Not for a while anyway.

I just looked at him, as he tried to get up. He was clutching his stomach,
I had heard rumors that he was having stomach problems after the fight with
Wolfgang Krauser.

It was then that his girlfriend, Nabiki, who was really very cute by the
way, and wore a VERY short skirt which showed off her very lovely legs, ran
to his side and helped him up, despite his pretty loud protests that she
"get the #%^$## out of here!"

Well, this Nabiki was one brave lady, and said that she was staying right
there to help him!

It was around this time that Jamin, who had fended off several more attacks
by Ryu and some brave policemen, turned his attention back to Terry and,
after noticing Nabiki's presence, shot off another energy blast towards us!

This was the moment that my brain kicked into gear and I managed to blurt
out: "Behind you!"

Terry took a quick glance behind him, and grabbed both Nabiki and me into a
hug and took the entire freaking blast on his back. I wasn't sure if I
should thank him for saving my life or to tell him how stupid he was for
doing that!

Jamin was just looking at us, or to be more precise at Terry and Nabiki. He
looked really angry, those eyes of his seemed to glow with a lot of
emotion. They were really scary, brr..

Then he said something in a very deep voice: "Bogard! You will pay for what
you have done to Lady Sulia!"

I looked at Nabiki and saw her shooting dagger looks at Jamin, if looks
could kill, Jamin would have probably been six feet, no, make that ten feet
under already! She replied for Terry. "Damn it Jamin, you think Terry
wanted her to die? He's hurting as much as you are over what happened! Its
been three years, let it go!"

Jamin just looked at them. He was quiet for a few minutes, and very still.
Then he replied.

"Earthquaker!"

With that shout, he struck the ground and there was a rolling wave of
energy and debris which erupted from his blow, it was coming at us head on,
and I did what any sane person would do, I ran away. Or at least I tried.

But it seemed that the running away actually turned out to be pretty
useless. This was because Terry had performed his own technique, his power
wave, I think it was called. The two blasts managed to cancel each other
out with a bright flash of light that blinded me.

When I finally opened my eyes a few minutes later, Jamin and Ryu were going
at it again, really fast and furious. Punch against counter punch, kick
against kick, energy attack against energy attack. Ryu evidently using his
superior speed to evade most of Jamin's harder blows.

Terry was still not helping out, and Nabiki was still beside him, although
Terry was trying to get up.

I blinked a bit at this, and noticed that there were some police and people
in interesting looking body armor with the word "NERV" written on the back.
The NERV people had big guns with them, and they were jockeying for
position, probably to get a clear shot at the supervillain.

But Jamin noticed this and was able to knock Ryu back and did that
earthquaker thing again, this time it was aimed at the NERV and police
people. It was awful to watch. Neither hero had been able to stop that last
earthquaker and it was very gruesome when the attack struck home, killing
dozens of people, blood and charred bodies flying in every direction.

Oh yeah, now NERV is this international U.N. backed agency that's in charge
of taking down all the threats to the world, like supervillains. You don't
hear about them much in other cities because they're supposed to be kind of
hush-hush, you know what I mean? I think their HQ is somewhere in the city.

What was that? How do I know about them? Oh, there are a lot of websites
about them on the net.

Anyway, those NERV boys weren't doing any better than the cops and the
heroes, they were all still getting a royal butt kickin! But that didn't
stop some of them trying to get a shot off at the bad guy, whatever those
big, high-powered zappers were, they sure packed a punch. A couple of shots
from those guns looked like energy blasts.

It was just too bad that they missed Jamin.

And they hit Ryu.

This wasn't a good thing. Next thing I knew, Ryu who had barely managed to
hold his own a few minutes ago and had been buying time for Terry, was now
getting his butt handed to him.
I saw him take a full bursting knuckle punch in his gut, and he vomited
blood at that hit, he would have probably buckled over in pain, if Jamin
had given him a chance to do so.
Punch after punch, kick after kick, Ryu took it all in various parts of
his body, and I really doubt if he was enjoying it.

Jamin, on the other hand, was definitely enjoying it. What is it with all
these supervillains about inflicting pain? Is it a masochist thing?

Jamin had stopped using conventional attacks and was now using forceblasts
on Ryu.

The NERV people tried to help again but Jamin seemed to know about it,
don't ask me how though, maybe some sort of spider-sense? Like in the
comics? Anyway, Jamin turned around and shot a few force-blasts their way.
Then put his attention back on Ryu, who was pretty near unconsciousness
from the look of things. Blood was seeping down Ryu's forehead and his left
arm seemed to be at an unnatural angle, and his once white gi was now
splattered with blood.

Jamin bashed him up a few more times till he seemed to be really out of
it. Then, keeping Ryu up by grasping on to the front of his gi, Jamin
raised his hand and powered it up with energy again, and was about to
finish him off.

Or he would have, when all of a sudden, there was a shout of "Hadoken!"
from out of nowhere, and an energy bolt struck Jamin and blasted him away,
dropping Ryu to the ground.

Jamin landed on his feet, however, and was instantly ready for the new
threat, turning towards the trees where the blast came from. I thought a
new hero had arrived to help out, could it be the Guyver? Or even
Saiyanman?

Nope, it turned out to be this dark-looking guy, who looked exactly like
Ryu. Except that he was in a black gi, rather than white, and he had very
red eyes. Not red from sore eyes mind you, but red from energy I think, or
evil. Whatever.

If I thought Jamin was creepy, this guy was creepier! What was even
creepier was that Ryu and this other guy could pass off as twins! Except
for the eyes anyway. I could barely see him, since he was so dark, and
near the trees and their shadows.

I hear the fellow say: "Ryu is mine. Touch him and you will die. Slowly."
He was pretty intimidating and when he spoke, he did so slowly, emphasizing
specific words in such a way that there was no mistaking his capability to
back up his words. I personally think this unnerved Jamin, although he
didn't show it.

The two stood staring at each other for a few minutes. Eye to eye. It was
kind of unsettling. For a second I thought they would start killing each
other. But then the guy who looked like Ryu seemed to glow a bit, turned
sideways towards the shadows and disappeared.

You heard me right, he disappeared.

One minute he was there, the next he was gone.

I blinked, the police blinked, hell everyone blinked at that. Even Jamin
blinked. I should know, I saw him. He was looking around wondering what had
happened when another shout came from behind him.

"Jamin!"

He turned around, to see a wobbly Terry Bogard facing him, Nabiki beside
him.

"Let's finish this Jamin, just you and me, like we did the last time." Said
Terry. "And this time, no giving up."

The big guy(Jamin) smiled at this. Showing off his, ironically, shiny white
teeth which did not seem to at all fit in with the darkness of his body and
soul.

Then he said in that deep voice of his: "I won't."

I see Terry nod at this; then he motioned Nabiki to back away, which she
did.

And you know what? The two square off, getting into a staring match, just
looking at each other for a few minutes, like Jamin and that Ryu twin did a
few minutes before. Except that Terry wasn't so still. He looked wobbly, as
if unsure that he could stand up on his own for long.

The two then charge, both of them punching towards the other, Terry with
his right fist, Jamin with his left. Both of them shouted their attacks, as
energy covered their respective fists and began to swirl all around each
other.

"Burn Knuckle!"

"Bursting Knuckle!"

The two fighters and their energies collided with the speed and power of
freight trains. We were soon an audience to a very impressive light show!

Both of them had huge energies surrounding them now, Terry's aura was sky
blue while Jamin's was blood red.

Their energies were battling each other, the focal point of those chi being
their fists. The light show was blinding, and those energies were swirling
everywhere. And the sheer force that the two were generating was enough to
fling both me and Nabiki away.

I landed hard on my butt, but I quickly tried to ignore the pain and got
up, because I didn't want to miss a second of this fight. I kept looking at
the two of them, they were still there, fist to fist, and their energies,
their chi, swirling all around them.

For a few moments, it wasn't sure who would overwhelm who, all I know is,
that during those moments, no one, not the police, not the NERV people, not
the bystanders, not even I were breathing. We were all holding our breath,
awaiting the outcome. Oddly enough, some of the NERV people were wearing
shades. They were probably the more experienced ones.

The concrete ground was cracking under the strain, and I could see Terry
start to wobble a bit, and when he did wobble, his energy would flicker, as
if he was weakening.

I was thinking to myself, this is not good, just as Jamin started laughing
and began to push his advantage. It looked like Terry couldn't hold out any
longer, he was really shaking now, it was obvious that it was taking just
about everything he had to keep this up.

But then I noticed something else. Terry's other hand was glowing a lot
too, it looked like he was going to try something, and he did. He shouted
"Power Geyser!" just as he let go of his burn knuckle technique, and
performed this super pumped up version of his power wave attack by hitting
the ground with his other fist.

It was like the whole park blew up.

There was a big flash of light, a gigantic roar, and then nothing.

-*-

By the time I woke up, it was all over, or so I thought.

Terry, was still up, but even wobblier than before. Jamin was down, and he
didn't look too healthy either. Everyone else around me was still picking
himself or herself up, including Nabiki, who kept shaking her head, as if
to clear it, and I heard her muttering something about stupid final
attacks.

The superhero looked happy, although his face was one of exhaustion. He
turned his back on the fallen Jamin, and did what he always did when he
won, he took off his cap with his left hand, and threw it away, shouting
"Okay!"

He would regret ever doing that, for the rest of his life.

It turns out that Jamin wasn't totally done yet, he saw Terry turn his
back, got up, took a quick look around, saw his target and shot off one
final energy blast before collapsing.

I saw where he was looking, and I knew who his target was. I tried to warn
her by shouting: "Look Out!"

Nabiki looked up at my warning and saw with horror that there was no way
she could dodge the attack in time.

Terry heard that same shout and turned around. Seeing what was happening
and not about to let the blast hurt his girlfriend, he jumped towards her
in an attempt to stop it. It was a pretty strong jump and a very noble
effort, he cleared most of the distance in that one leap.

That jump enabled him to almost, but not quite touch the sphere of energy,
his fingertips barely grazing the glowing ball of fire.

He could see the blast, he could almost touch it, he could just about stop
it,

Almost...

 just a little more....

He could touch the energy now; it was burning his fingers, even as he tried
to stop it.

But he didn't stop it, he didn't make it.

He didn't save her. He couldn't.

Nabiki took the blast head on, taking the full brunt of it.

She fell to the ground limply, as if all the life was sucked out of her.

Terry didn't stop the blast, and he wasn't even able to catch her before
she hit the ground. He was shouting "NNOOOO!!!" As if he was unable to
believe that he had failed to stop the blast, failed to save her, his own
love. I saw him fall to his knees, pick her up, and hold on to her.

The NERV agents and the police were soon swarming all over the place, as if
by securing the area now, they could make up for their uselessness earlier
in the fight. A couple of them went towards Jamin cautiously, to check if
he was still alive. Others went to Ryu, and tried to wake him up. And still
others went towards me, uncertainty on their faces on how to deal with a
simple college student, who was pretty much where he wasn't supposed to be.

Some of them were cloistered around Nabiki and Terry, most of them
paramedics. I ran towards them, not sure why, but felt that I had to see,
just see if everything would be okay. The authorities, still uncertain of
what to do about me, let me pass.

Terry was huddled over Nabiki, clutching her close to him, he spared a
quick glance at one of the paramedics. The trained medical expert simply
shook his head. It was enough to convey his meaning. With that, Terry
really lost it.

He held her even closer, ignoring the blood that was staining his clothes.

"Nabiki! I'm sorry!" whispered Terry, "please, please don't die! Wake up
Please? Please!"

Nabiki, stirred a bit, saw who was holding her and smiled wanly.

Terry saw this and smiled back, only to grimace when her eyes closed and
her head fell and hung limply to the side.

"NABIKI!!!!"

That shout, no, that cry of anguish pierced the heart of every person
present that day.

All the people around him, including me, stepped back, to give him room for
his grief.

Terry didn't notice this, he was sobbing, crying. Still holding her close,
he touched her cheek, not quite believing what was in front of him.

"Nabiki, I never even had the chance, I never even got to say" Terry broke
down at this point, with heart rending sobs that racked his body, before he
whispered, in a tone that few people could hear: "I love you."

						-*-

I wasn't sure how I staggered out of the park that day.

All I know is that I managed to get to my friend Sakamoto's apartment,
bringing Terry's cap with me, and dragged him out to a bar and got dead
drunk.

Before I got drunk, I remember thinking about my own situation, my own
lovelife.

I loved Kyoko, that much I was sure of, but I didn't know if Kyoko loved me
back. I do know that, even for an apartment house manager, she was pretty
friendly to me. In fact, we were pretty close.

But, did she love me?

I know I loved her.

I have to tell her, I would never be able to rest, never be able to sleep
if I didn't. Even now, the thought, the memory of Terry Bogard, the Hungry
Wolf, the Hero of Southtown huddled over the body of the girl that he loved
still haunts me.

She never even got to hear him say those three precious words. Three little
words that could have meant so much to her.

I vowed that I wouldn't make that mistake. It was a lesson that I learned
the hard way. But it was a valuable lesson.

I went to Kyoko's room, the day after the incident, and I knocked on her
door.

I heard her say "come in."

So I did.

"Godai! Where have you been? You never came home yesterday." She asked me,
worry on her face.

"Kyoko," I started to say, the image of Terry and Nabiki clearly etched in
my mind, Terry's cap in my hands, a reminder of sorts.

"There's something I have to tell you..."

The End

The anime characters that I hijacked to put into this alternative universe
fanfic. I listed them down here and put in their actual characteristics
according to their respective animes, so that readers will know who's who:

Yusaku Godai- A college student, wishy washy, indecisive and pitiful, from
Rumiko Takahashi's
romatic comedy "Maison Ikkoku." Is in love with Kyoko Otonashi, the manager

of that apartment house.

Kyoko Otonashi- a beautiful young widow who is the manager of Maison
Ikkuko, is from the
same anime (Maison Ikkoku) as Yusaku is from, and if the manga are any
indication, also has some feelings for the poor college student.

Terry Bogard- blonde fighter from the Fatal Fury video games and anime
done by Masami
Obari. Has lost two loved ones, according to the animes, Lily, in the first
anime, and Sulia, in the movie. Very powerful fighter.

Ryu- as if you didn't know who he was, and what series and video game he
came from!

Nabiki Tendo- Minor character in the anime Ranma . Was the middle sister
of Akane Tendo and is a bit of a mercenary when it comes to money, is often
portrayed as a cold money grubbing girl in the anime.

NERV- the UN agency based in Japan from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.
They are
charged with saving the world from destruction by the angels, through the
use of their own robots called EVAs, which can only be piloted by specific
fourteen year old children.

Guyver- a teenager who somehow manages to get an odd armor which surrounds
him and makes
him super-powerful. The armor is known as the Bio-Booster Guyver. An
organization known as Cronos owned the said armor and they want it back.
>From the anime Bio Booster Guyver.

Saiyanman- the identity that Son Gohan of Dragonball Z took up during his
college years in the
city so as not to let others know that he was super-powered. Very powerful,
is capable of destroying an entire planet, even stronger than pure-blood
saiyans, due to his hybrid mix.

Macross City- from the anime Superdimesional Fortress Macross, a veritable
classic in anime,
Macross city is the city that is inside this Space Fortress, which was
capable of defeating an entire alien fleet of warships.

And the most important and final character who did not come from any anime:

YOU- a visitor to Macross City and befriended by Yusaku Godai. An anime fan
who likes to read
fanfiction and was kind enough to take the time to read it. Thank you,
without you, then there would be no point in writing this, would there?

That's about it, please send all C & C to lynch@surfshop.net.ph. Thanks!
