I have to disagree here. Yes, they originally began as
manifestations of Ranma's fears from his ordeal (burn
in hell, Genma!); however, the personalities
themselves are *separate people*. It's been shown in
scientific studies that brainwave patters alter
greatly depending on what personality is dominant at
the time. The other members of the Tribe are as
different and unique as any other person.

No matter how cute or entertaining the other
personalities seem, in the
end they're just symptoms of a sickness. Ranma
can't really be in any
way considered well or healthy until they're gone.

Actually, that's not really true either. There are
multiples out there who choose *not* to reintegrate
their other personalities. For many of them, it is the
best way for them to handle life; they learn to open
communications between all the 'society's' members.
The situations have to be tailored to the patient's
needs.

Yes, I am a psych major, and DID (dissasociative
identy disorder, to be politically correct) is, for
personal reasons, a topic I've studied up on quite a
bit.

To tell the truth, I always found "A Stained Glass
Mind" to be kind of
depressing. The Ranma in it is just as sick and
twisted as the Ranma
from "Ill Met by Starlight". I kept hoping that
once Ranma felt safe
enough with the Tendos, he'd lose the need to
pretend to be different
things in order to deal with the outside world and
just be able to be
himself again.

You *really* don't understand the impact of the
Neko-ken, do you? The trauma of something like that
can take many years for the person to be able to fully
recover. Just plunking the person down in a *normal*
environment won't help anything. It's disturbing, yes,
especially because there are tens of thousands of
people that are traumatized every day. It's food for
thought...
