Just a bit of trivia here. Admiral Yamamoto's actual quote was "I fear
we have awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible
resolve."

Yamamoto had toured the U.S. before the war, at the height of the
Depression, and saw the many factories lying dormant. As you depict in
your story, he knew that only a decisive victory at the onset of
hostilities would allow Japan to prevail.
