Come on, at least pretend to help this poor author. Would it hurt to
inform
this person that the proper name of the attack is 'Supreme Thunder'?
well, the reason i used the thunderbolt zap was that the last episode i
saw was the english translation in which they fought the gloom and doom
brothers. In that i believe she says "Jupiter Thunderbolt Zap!" blasting
one of the brothers out of the ground. I was going to use later sailor
scout stuff but i have no idea what Oak evolution or any of the other
newer special attacks look like.
Actually, that would have been "Jupiter ThunderCLAP Zap", and the *actual*
name of the attack is Sparkling Wide Pressure.
sorry, i was referring to them by actual name, not scout name because
they werent actualy talking. Whenever they said something they used
their sailor names, but while they were thinking i mistakenly believed
they would think their real name, as their mentality doesnt change with
the transformation. Thank you, ill change that.
When they are in Senshi form, you must refer to them by their Senshi names.
When they are in civilian form, you refer to them by their civilian names.
Except in situations of stressful dialogue.
An actual bit of C&C on the story here: should be 'Ucchan'.
well ive seen it spelled unchan, ucchan, utchan, ect. It realy depends
on the writer. However, i that spelling looks much better, so ill use
it, thanks.
No, it does NOT depend on the writer, actually. It is spelled "Ucchan".
"Utchan" is also acceptable. "Unchan" is completely WRONG.
Why is it wrong?
Japanese is a syllabic language. The name Ranma, for example, is spelled
'ra n ma'. Certain conditions affect certain spellings; for example, when a
consonant sound must be doubled, the syllable affected is preceded by
'tsu', and certain vowel sounds are created by appending a smaller syllable
after the affected character; in most cases, the appended character will be
'ya', 'yo', or 'yu'.
Look at the sign above Ukyou's shop. The kana clearly read:
'U <tsu> CHI <ya> N'
Which is pronounced "Ucchan" or "Utchan".
If it were meant to be pronounced "Unchan", it would be written like so:
'U N CHI <ya> N'
However, it is NOT, and therefore 'Unchan' is a completely incorrect
spelling.
(Note: since it's been a while since I last studied kana, it's possible
that I have inadvertently screwed up here, though unlikely, as I am quite
capable of reading hiragana accurately. However, if I have made an error in
this explanation, please feel free to correct me.)
Since when is there a general tendency towards the NA names? For every
eight Sailormoon fics I read, only one uses those atrocities.
Ive seen different spellings for their names, such as Rei, Raye, Ray,
ect. The reason i was using "NA" because i well....I forgot what
Makoto's English name was ok!(depressed look)How did the English
translation refer to demons? All i remember were things like "Cardian"
or "Nega Trash". I used Youma because thats the generic term for demon.
As you are clearly able to use the Japanese names, you should, especially
since you seem to have more knowledge of them than the NA names.
(Personal note: let us *not* reignite the flamewar over the NA names again,
people. You all know how I feel about them, and this commentary reflects
*my* personal opinion.)
Sorry, just doing what ive seen other writers do. Ill keep that in mind.
Doing what you've seen other writers do guarantees a fic which nobody will
read. Why bother reading a terrible fic full of already-used fanfiction
conventions, when we can read much better fics by other, established
authors? Write something original, for screwin' out loud.
