Since my pre-readers are still checking out the revised 'Brand of
Mousse' chapters. I might as well post this.

Neon Genesis Nadesico

by Mark Ferrer (mabli@idirect.com)

Note: I don't know NGE very well, haven't even seen it. The
characterizations come from other fics and the knowledge that most anime
personalities are alike.

"Okay Akito, just picture Mars in your mind and concentrate. Don't
let your mind waver or we might jump somewhere else. Okay?" said Dr.
Ines, checking the machines calculating the variables necessary for the
Boson Jump.

"Are you sure this is going to work?" asked Akito. Whenever this
kind of thing happened in anime, the result of bad calculations or a
poor choice of site to teleport in would cause some of the supporting
cast to die instantly.

"If the Jovians can do it, we can do it too." said Erina
confidently.

"What part of Mars are you going to think of Akito?" asked the
Yurika, who was holding hands with the reluctant cook.

"Well, I guess I'll picture the field we used to go to. If we crash
or anything, the field's nice and level." said Akito thoughtfully.

Yurika bopped him on the head lightly and said, "Don't think things
like that. This will work."

Dr. Ines nodded to one of the assistants and joined the captain and
the cook. "Everything's set. Now, from my calculations, physical contact
will increase our chances of being able to make the jump."

With that, she, Akito and Yurika joined hands. Erina, well away
from the three, nodded to the assistant in charge of monitoring the
computers. He flipped the switch, launching the Tulip crystals around
the Nadesico. As soon as the crystals surrounded the ship, they started
glowing, as did the three individuals holding hands in the observatory.

In the observatory, the three people holding hands closed their
eyes and concentrated on their target. The people watching them saw that
mysterious lines formed on their skin and were bright enough to be seen
through their clothes.

Akito focused on the field where Yurika had always pestered him in.
Unfortunately, his mind wandered.

<I never noticed before but Ines kinda reminds me of that Ritsuko
woman in that anime I saw in the Nadesico's databanks. Not only that,
Ruri's like that blue-haired girl there too. And Akatsuki, he's like
that Kaji guy. Ryoko's like Asuka. Gort's kinda like Gendo. I hate that
guy. And Shinji... I know who he's like. It's right on the tip of my
mouth...>

In the observatory, Erina was doing what she rarely does.
Panicking. Everything was going wrong. Someone's mind was wandering. If
it went on anymore, the ship would jump to any random location.

Meanwhile, Akatsuki was relishing watching Erina squirm. "Don't
worry. Akito will get us there. Don't worry so much."

Erina shot him a withering glare. "How can you be so relaxed at a
time like this?! A wrong move and we could materialize millions of
lightyears from earth, within a solid object or right in front of a
Jovian battleship."

"But it'll be an adventure." said Akatsuki.

Meanwhile, Akito's mind was still wandering. <I wonder what it
would be like if I piloted an Eva. It would be cool to meet Misato in
person...>

Alone at the bridge, watching the proceedings via holoscreen, Ruri
said, "Well, it looks like were going to..."

"Shinji! Try to hold the Angel still. Wonder girl, cover me."
yelled Asuka. She was angry that the Angel had knocked her down three
times already. Now it's payback time. Since she didn't have a killer
one-liner at the moment, she just brought her progressive knife down for
the final blow.

A blow that never connected. Instead, it was blocked by a huge
white ship that materialized in front of her. The progressive knife
stopped metres away from the hull of the ship.

<Another Angel?> Asuka thought. <Why the heck does it look like a
spaceship?>

Inside the Nadesico, the electronics flared to life after about 5
minutes of darkness while the jump occurred. Ruri, seeing that they were
in some kind of battlefield, took the ship higher up into the atmosphere
to get a better idea of what was going on.

The three Eva's and Angel looked up in wonder of the huge ship
hovering above them. Suddenly, it seemed like the Angel remembered it's
purpose and started attacking the distracted EVAs.

"What's going on?" Erina asked aloud.

All the senior officers of the Nadesico were on the bridge watching
the Angel beat up the EVAs.

"Perhaps we should help the pilots of those robots." asked Gort.

"No way you're letting my Aestivali fight that thing!" exclaimed
Seiya.

     "Captain! Do something!" yelled Erina.

Yurika thought for a moment and said, "Make ready the gravity blast
and back away. We have no idea what will happen if that monster thing
gets blasted by it."

Minato flew the ship back about 500 metres. A moment later, Ruri
gave the okay signal for the gravity blast."

The EVA's were being thrown around like rag-dolls. All three are
slowly getting up after being thrown into each other by the Angel. They
were facing the Angel, who had it's back to the white ship that
appeared.

"Captain. We have a clear shot but there is a chance the monster
will dodge and we may hit the robots in front of it." said Ruri.

All eyes turned to the captain, who said, "It won't turn. Fire."

The gravity blast 'barrel' opened up and a black wave shot out,
hitting the Angel's AT field. The field seemed to buckle but it still
remained.

The Angel turned around and started to charge the Nadesico.

"It's going to charge us!" exclaimed Megumi.

"Fire another gravity blast." said Yurika.

Another black blast hit the Angel's AT field, this time shattering
it and making a nice little hole right through the Angel. Seeing that it
lost, the Angel activated it's self-destruct sequence.

"Target destroyed, but it seems some type of shockwave is headed
for us." said Ruri.

Ines was about to explain what was going on but then the ship was
rocked by explosion.

Gendo steepled his fingers, watching the proceedings on a
videoscreen. This was not going to plan.

End part 1.

Author's Notes: So, how bad was it? I know it's not a good idea not to
write a story about an anime you haven't seen before but I just had to
write this. Anyway, if it does turn out to be good, EVA fic writers
could pat themselves on the back knowing that someone who hasn't even
watched the anime learned the character's personality through their
fics.
