This story started when i began thinking, what would it be like if Ranma and
Akane met on regular terms? The story i came up with has some twists to it,
that keep with the original story, but change because of small diffrences in
main charictors personalitys! enjoy, and sorry about my spelling!
Ranma 1/2 is the creation and property of Rimiko Takahashi, not me!! I did not
create the characters credited to her name, nor do I claim to!

Prologue:
=======
A man lies in a bed, sick and pale. The docter said it was emphysema, and
that he should cut down on his smoking, he never was one to listen to doctors.
The knowladge that one's death is near dose strange things to a man. Some,
they want name there heirs, and make sure there money goes to the right
people. Some want to organize there clutter so that loved ones wont have to
when they are gone, but this particular man wanted his daughters betrothed!
"Yes doctor, I'm fine, and no I haven't been smoking. I was calling in
regarding your son Tofu. Yes, I've noticed he and my dear Kasumi are getting
along wonderfuly. I was thinking, that maybe, when they reach a sertin age
they could marry. Yes I know there is a small age difference, but there is no
one I would rather have as Kasumi's father-in-law then you, Ono-san! Alright,
you think about it, but give me an answer soon, I'm not getting any healther!"
"Flatery dear?" The sick man's pregnant wife came into the room.
"Well, Ono is a sucker for flatery." Soun said.
"Genma is here, would you like to see him?"
"Yes, yes, of course." Soun said.
A man of medium hight, a balding head, and large girth came into the room.
"Ah, Saotome, my friend, you have come at last!"
"Yes, Tendo, now what was so urgent that you needed to see me?"
"I would like to prupose a marrage." Soun said.
"Tendo, we are both married, and your really not my type."
"Not us you moron! Your son and my daughter." Soun yelled, and promptly
beagan to cough violently.
"You really should stop smoking Tendo." Genma said as he pulled a cigarett
out of Soun's mouth, and placed it in his.
"I will smoke untill the day they lie me in my cascit!" Soun said shourtly.
"Excuse me, Mr. Tendo." A man opend the door to the room "We've finished the
cascit you ordered, would you like to lie in it to see that you fit in?"
"Can't you see he's buisy?" Genma asked.
"Oh I'm sorry." the man turned to leave, but looked back at Genma. "You know,
sir, you really shouldn't smoke in the same room as a man with emphysema,
there's a thing called second hand smoke, and it's very dangerus for a man
with such weak lungs!" the man then left the room and closed the door quitly
behind him.
"So Tendo, what where you saying?" Genma asked.
"I was proposing an aranged marrage between your son and my daughter." Soun
said.
"But my son isn't even born yet." Genma said.
"Nither is my daughter." Soun smiled. "Please, Seotome, there is no one I
would rather have as my unborn daughter's father-in-law than you."
"Ok, Tendo, consider them betrothed!" Genma said.
About ten years later:
Genma had left his wife with there son. Although the son did not know, they
had been running from her for the last four years, and along there travels had
met another man, Kuonji-san , who had a daughter.
"Hmm... A marriage between your daughter and my son, eh? I'm sorry to say
Ranma's already been promised."
"I see. How unfortunate. I was going to offer my okonomiyaki cart as the
dowry."
"But aren't promises meant to be broken?"
A woman hid in the trees, she had finally found her husband and son, only to
find the man she had married was selling her son to a practical stranger
without her consent. She left secretly that night with her son and the girl
named Ukyo.

A Change of Chance

"Your slow!" Ranma said in a superior voice. "You lack the speed, strength,
endurance, and finesse that are needed to become the wonderful martial artist
that I am!"
"Oh yeah, I'm sure!" Ukyo said sarcastically.
"Hey, that sounded like an insult!" Ranma smiled at his best friend. He
couldn't remember a time that she had not been there, by his side (well
actually below him, as he was walking on a fence.)
"Race ya' to school?" Ukyo asked expectantly.
"Why? If we race we'll be early to school, and that won't do for the first
day!" Ranma said.
"Yeah, your right." Ukyo sighed.
"What was that for?" Ranma asked, looking down at Ukyo, worry plain on his
face, he never really could keep his feelings to himself. As the saying goes:
he wore his heart on his sleeve (if he was wearing a shirt!)
"What was what for?"
"That sigh, it was a pretty big one."
"Just coming here, to your home, which you haven't seen since you where five,
and finding out that you Dad went to Jusinkyo too!" Ukyo said, "That he turns
into a Panda, and now starting at a new school. It's all just so new to me!"
"Me too! I just can't get over the fact that Pop went to Jusinkyo, and then
without knowing it, Mom brought us to the same place!" Ranma's face darkened,
and Ukyo realized her mistake, she shouldn't have mentioned Jusinkyo, the
curse was still new to Ranma, and he didn't like to think about what happened
to him when the water was cold!
Ukyo could now see the building that was to be there new school, she
straitened her school uniform, making sure the dress wasent wrinkled, (yes I
said dress) and looked up at Ranma. Of course he wouldn't ware the uniform, it
wasn't flexible enough for his liking, but he always looked handsome in
whatever he wore! Or so he looked from the loving eye's of his childhood
friend Ukyo.
Ranma jumped down beside Ukyo, "Ready Ukyo?" He said as he flashed her a
smile that melted her heart.
"Mm hmm." She nodded vigorously.
"Ok, let's go knock 'em dead." Ranma said, then added "Not literally" as an
after thought.
The sight that Ranma and Ukyo saw as they rounded the corner of the wall
surrounding the school, was suprising to say the least. A boy, obviously an
upperclassman, was fighting off what looked to be every other boy in the
school. Ranma watched for a while, not noticing the group of girls that the
fight, and he himself, was gathering.
"Pretty good fighter, he can hold his own with multiple appoints, but none of
them are really skilled, and he probably wouldn't be as good in a one on one."
Ukyo commented, and Ranma nodded.
"Good observation, but your forgetting that he could probably adjust his
style if the need for a one on one arose, but there's also the factor of his
boken." Ranma started. "Both you and I know that a weapon limits you and makes
you easy to read, but he probably doesn't realize what a properly trained
person can do with there bodies alone, and they don't have to carry around a
weapon all the time."
"I still prefer my spatula over bare fists." Ukyo said.
"I know, but after a certain point there's no room for you to learn more
techniques. You know all there is to know about your weapon, but I can learn
much more different things about my body and how to use the weapon I was born
with." Ranma smiled a mocking smile at Ukyo, "Plus, what happens if you lose
your spatula?"
"What happens if I break your arm?" Ukyo smiled back.
"Same as if I break yours." Ranma said.
"You two sound like siblings." A girl beside Ranma said.
"Huh?" Ranma turned to see an incredibly cute girl. Her short black hair
bobbed around her face like a halo of night. "Um, where best friends." he
said softly.
"Oh, well you sound like martial artists too!" she smiled.
That did it, Ranma was speechless he had never seen a girl so cute, and then
she had to hit him with that smile!
"We are!" Ukyo said cheerfully, "Ranma here could probably beat that guy with
his eyes closed."
"Is that true?" the girl said a little suprized. Ranma nodded, still not in
control of his vocal cords. "Well maybe you'd like to come down to the Tendo
Dojo some time and you can show me what you've got!" She smiled and started to
walk toward the school, "Well come on, the bell will ring soon!"
Ranma and Ukyo started to follow the girl, but just then all the guy's out
side the school began to file in and they lost track of her. The two of them
decided to go in search of there lockers. They found them without trouble,
and put the books they thought they wouldn't need for their morning classes in
them. As they began to walk to there first class, Ranma saw the girl they had
met that morning pulling violently at a locker.
"Ukyo, you go on to class, I'll meet you there." Ranma said quickly.
"Huh? Ranma, are you sure?" she asked.
"Yeah just hurry, the bell should ring any minute." Ranma shoed her in the
direction of class. Then he walked to the cute girl shoving at her locker.
"You need some help there?" he asked.
"No, I can... Your Ranma right?" she said as she looked up at him.
"Yeah." he said. "And your..."
"Oh I'm sorry, I'm Akane." she said sweetly.
"Akane Tendo?" Ranma asked.
"Yeah, how'd you..."
"You asked me to come to the 'Tendo Dojo,' and it just made sense that your
father would be Tendo-sensi." Ranma smiled.
Akane looked down, "He was Tendo-sensi, but he passed away when I was very
young. My mother is now Tendo-sensi."
"Oh, I'm really sorry!" Ranma said. There was a silence, "Um, do you need
help with your locker?"
"Thank you." Akane said softly.
Ranma griped the latch to open the locker, and pulled hard, not close to his
hardest, but hard for anyone else. The locker easily opened, and Akane smiled
again. "Thank you." she said again, but this time with joy. She gathered the
book's she needed as the bell rang. "Oh no, we're late! What class are you
going to?"
"Hm, me? Um, Freshman class F." Ranma said absently.
"Really, that's my class, come on, we better hurry!"
With that Akane started sprinting down the hall, Ranma easily caught up and
stayed at her heals. She stopped abruptly at a door, and Ranma effortlessly
stopped right after her. She opened the door and Ranma followed her in the
room.
"Ah, Miss. Tendo, and I assume this Ranma Saotome? How good of you to join
us."
"Sorry we're late sensi, Ranma-kun was just helping me with my locker." Akane
said as she moved to her seat near the back of the room.
"Well, since your so familiar with our second new student, you wouldn't mind
his sitting in the seat beside you?" It was a question not to be answered.
"But first, since you have both been late, you will go out in the hall."
Akane sighed, rolled her eye's, and got two buckets from the corner of the
room, filled them with water, and gave one to Ranma. Ranma shuddered as he
took the bucket, and followed her to the hall.
There was a short period of silence before Ranma finally said something. "So
what was that fight outside about?" he asked.
"Me." she said bluntly.
"Huh?"
"You see the guy who was fighting them all was Kuno, my boyfriend." Akane
said.
"Your what?" Ranma said.
"Shhh, don't raise your voice, we're in enough trouble as it is. Anyway,
he's my boyfriend, and he said that in order for anyone else to even ask me
out, they have to defeat him. So all the guys in school fight him every
morning so they can ask me out, the only thing is he's the best fighter in
school, so no one's been able to beat him." Akane smiled, "I think it's
terribly romantic for him to do that."
"Well, wouldn't it be equally romantic for some one to beat him in a one on
one fight, just so that they can have the privilege of asking you out?" Ranma
asked hopefully, although he didn't really understand why he was so drawn to
this girl, except for the fact that she was terribly cute.
"I guess so." Akane shrugged.
"You guess so?" Ranma said.
"Well, I don't know. I don't even see what girls think is so romantic about
the situation." Akane said with a small laugh.
"Well, if I didn't know any better I'd say you where a tomboy at heart!"
Ranma laughed as well.
"You would be absolutely right!" Akane said.
The two talked until the bell rang, and with each word Ranma, without knowing
it, fell deeper and deeper in love with this vision of cuteness called Akane
Tendo.
