2). The sheer volume of 'fics produced means that probably only a small
fraction of the audience reads any given person's work (unless they have
a big name, or the work is both controversial enough and good enough to
start public debate). So just because a work doesn't get a lot of votes
doesn't mean it's not good... it might well be that it didn't get the
notice it deserves.

Well, I for one was very surprised when not one, but two of my fics
finished in the top three in the Best of Ranma Awards for August. Since my
first fic was written and sent to RAAC back in February, I am not a big
name or an old timer by any means.

CMD Chapter 3 came in 2nd for continuing series and Ranma-ototo: PSME part
2 came in 3rd for mini-series.

Part of me knows that this was partly due to the lack of big names during
that month, but it's nice to know that there are people out there reading
my fics. With the big names in September (DNU and Pursuit of Happiness,
among others) I doubt if I'll manage to win again, but then CMD ch3 wasn't
even my best chapter (in my opinion), so who knows.

"You like my fics... you really like them." *SNIF* <--bad Sally Field
impersonation (I think that's who did that at the oscars).

Later, Kasumi found her father cradling her mother in his arms. He
had run out of tears to shed long ago, but the expression on his face
told the story. Kasumi calmly slid the door closed and knelt down
facing her father and mother. Tears flowed from her eyes, but she just
waited until her father spoke.

After several minutes of silence, Soun asked with a scratchy
voice, "Kasumi dear. Will you please say goodbye to your mother and
then go get Mr. Saotome?" He didn't look up at his daughter once.

"Of course, Father," Kasumi said. She stood up, took one of her
mother's hands in her's, and said a soft, "Goodbye, Mother. I'll keep
my promise." Wiping the tears out of her eyes, she left to go find Mr.
Saotome.
